    I am being shipped a dv2700t laptop featuring a T9300 processor (2.50 GHz, 6 MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB). It's coming with 2GB (2 dimm) RAM, that I'm assuming is going to be PC2 5300 (667) and I'll be running 32-bit Vista.

I'd like to upgrade the RAM, and I'm wondering if it is worth it to replace the RAM entirely with PC2 6400 (800) RAM? I know Santa Rosa can't use the 800Mhz RAM, but I hear that Penryn can. So, if I get PC2 6300 (800) RAM, will it work out in this laptop? Or is it more worth it to buy just 1 x 2GB PC2 5300 (667) RAM, since I'd have to only replace a single stick?

And if I go with the single stick PC2 5300 (667), what sort of CL should I be looking for (i.e. what is the CL of the already installed RAM)?

Doesnt matter which brand you get, they will all pretty much perform the same. Just go with a reputable company.

Not too sure if its gonna run on 800mhz on penryn's but you might aswell go for 2x2gb to run on dual channel and future proof. Both sticks need to be the same frequency or else it will underclock to the lowest mhz module.

Try asking HP support, i have a feeling it wont. Thats why they still ship it out with 667mhz modules. They would have given you the option if it was possible

The CL latency is 5 on most laptop rams

It wont work at 800mhz speeds because your still on the santa rosa platform. The new montevina platform will have those speeds.

Stick with getting 667mhz, unless your planning on doing some serious work, you don't need 4GB. 3GB is enough for everyday use.

Besides unless your planing on upgrading to Vista 64bit , your not going to even see 4GB, you'll only see about 3.2GB of ram on vista 32bit, so you'll be "wasting" about 1GB of ram.

Thanks. I had figured that just adding a single 2GB stick at 667Mhz was probably the right solution, but it's nice to have some confirmation.

Thanks OP, you asked the same question that I had. I too ordered a T9300 dv2700tse, and was unwilling to pay $100USD for an additional 1GB.

I was looking all over for the best 4GB of ram at a decent price. Now I'll just go for an additional 2GB module and see how that goes.
