I know these laptops are practically the same, but I'm just wondering which laptop is better for me? Will I notice the difference between the two processors? I want a laptop that's fast and durable. I'm looking to use these laptops for 2 years to 4 years

How long will the 6-cell battery last for these laptops?

Should I buy a laptop now or later? I'll need a laptop by September and I don't know how much the prices for laptops will drop (ex: back to school sales) ... I would like to buy a merom/penryn (2.0 ghz+) or amd (2.0 ghz+) laptop less than $1000 w/o tax if possible. I'll be using a laptop mostly for schoolwork (word processing, spreadsheets, powerpoints, etc.), chatting (msn), surfing the net and watching movies online. I'll be multitasking with it as well. I might install The Sims 2 and Guild Wars.

The dv2713ca is the older model. The RAM is easier to upgrade and 2GB should be fine to run Vista and buying aftermarket RAM is cheaper and better solution. Between the two the dv2713ca offers better value. The 7150M is decent for an IGP and shouldnt have any problems with either Sims 2 or Guild Wars and for the uses you list the processor and the system in general should perform quite well. Be aware that there were some driver issues with running Aero but that may have been solved with a driver/bios update. battery life with the std battery should be around 2 - 3hrs depending on your usage.

As far as price is concerned, honestly I dont think its going to go much lower than what is already being offered. Maybe HP might offer rebates especially when Montevina and Puma are introduced around June/July. So, if you dont mind waiting and taking the risk then it might be worthwhile. However when the new platforms go on sale expect the prices to be a bit higher.
