    Hello all,

This is my first post here.

I was trying to clean up my laptop inside since it was making too much noise and got hot very quickly. Reading around it could be due to bad air flow.

So when I took out my harddrive, i cracked a hard drive connecter. Now I am getting no disk found when I power up the laptop. Not sure why hp made this of plactic and so fragile. Even Acer has solid metal connecter. 10 year old Toshiba laptop has better disign. My drive connecter is from SUYIN and number is 78352.

Question is has anybody ran into this problem and sucessful in chagning only the connector. Looks like I might have to change the whole motherboard. It is only 1 year and would like to avoid sending it to HP if I can.

Any suggestion would be highly appreciated.

    A picture would help.
Are you talking about the hard drive caddy connector
that slides over the sata connections on the hard drive?
Or did you break the sata connector on the MB?

It is definetely not caddy, if you are referring to hard drive enclosure. I want to say it is more the sata connector on the MB. I will post the picture soon.

    Thanks for the quick reply

Can you add a picture with the hard drive removed?

The SATA connector is part of the motherboard. There's not much you can do. That part is almost always made of plastic, since metal is conductive.

    cyber16,
There is nothing much if i took out the harddrive. As you can see in the pic, the cracked is where I have circled. It is clearly visible. Let me know if you want to see anything specific.

    lithus,
I guess you are suggesting to buy new motherboard. Do you know a site where I could buy used motherboard. I guess new motherboard costs like over 150. I think this system cost something like 400 brand new.

My point for a picture without the hard drive installed was i wanted to see if once the drive was remove if the connector would pull together some since the sata blades are a pressure contact/fit.
If it does pull back together without the drive, then get out the super glue and hit that corner of the connector let dry and replace the drive.
This of course will not repair broken solder joints if any, yet that can be done as well.

    edit:
once repaired, next time slide the drive out of the connector, don't just lift it out ;)
