Hi Guys,
Greetings!
I can see that this forum is full of experts, and I wonder if some of them could lend me some advice.
I have bought HP-dv4450 here in Italy. I think it's a great buy but the only problem I have is, it has got Windows XP Home installed in Italian and there is no option to change the language. Although I stay in Italy, I don't understand Italian. When I contacted HP Supports they said that they can not provide Windows English version.
Now, I have found SP2 in English and want to instal it on the machine, but it would require complete formating of my hard drive. Would you please answer,
1) When I do the complete formating, I lose all the software, including QuickPlay. Although I don't care about other software b'cos I have to instal English versions of those anyway (such as MS Office), I am worried about QuickPlay. Would I be able to instal that again once I format my hard drive.
Please note that HP hasn't provided me any disk. All what I have are 2 dvd I created from the recovery system.
Please advise at the earliest.
Thanks,
-

Hi,
Welcome to the forums. Its a simple problem, when you reformat windows, HP being the easiest notebook to reinstall you should get all the drivers online in the English Version from HP.com and all other software too, the quickplay can be downloaded at http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...roduct=459481&lang=en&softwareitem=ob-29458-1
Sincerely -
Hmmm... i believe that when you reinstall your OS, you lose everything.
There is a way of saving your application. It would involve much mingling with the i386 folder... like moving files around. and then you would have to burn a new CD with that folder and use it to reinstall windows, and most likeyl nothing woudl work... so you knwo what... forget about QuickPlay. It may be that good, but its not worth it.
What you want to do, is download ALL OF THE DRIVERS FOR YOUR SYSTEM and burn them on a cd before you reinstall. and when you reinstall, format the hard drive. or you will be sorry later oni know i was.
When you are done reinstalling, dont connect to the net before you are done installing all of the drivers provided by HP... If you connect, windows will start automatically updating everythin with stock versions of drivers and you will get screwed.
Enjoy!!!
It might take more than a couple tries. -
You will not lose QuickPlay capability unless you repartition the hard drive. This QuickPlay feature requires a small Linux partition, so if you do not delete it you can just reinstall the drivers from your selfmade recovery disks and everthing will work.
