I'm strongly considering the dv4000 with the Radeon X700 graphics card but a major issue for me are the resolutions available for the external display since I plan to run "docked" using an external monitor much of the time. I've chatted with HP support and they have told me that the maximum supported resolution is 1280 x 800, both on LCD and for an external monitor. However, some message board threads I've seen from actual dv4000 owners seem to indicate that you can increase the resolution beyond 1280 x 800, even on the LCD. So what is the maximum resolution for the dv4000 with the X700, both internal and external? If the external max res is not bigger than 1280 x 800, is 1152 x 864 an available setting? Thanks in advance.

If HP says that is what the specs are then that is what they are. You might be able to get them to work on a higher res monitor. I know some people have gotten the Dell 24" widescreen monitor to work on the the Thinkpad eve though its max external resolution is 1600x1200 and the Dell is 1920x1200

Thanks for the response. I'm not sold on the accuracy of the statement I was given. The HP rep had to do a lot of digging to give me information that really should have been available in the product manual (I looked, it isn't there). At first I took his response at face value, but like I said, I saw statements from dv4000 owners that implied the ability to use a higher resolution. Also, it looks like the Radeon X700 can support higher resolutions, so it seems like HP would have to intentionally disable this ability for external monitors to not be supported at anything higher than 1280 x 800.
Does anyone who has a dv4000 with an X700 know if the HP rep was right or not? Also, if 1280 x 800 is the external monitor max res, is 1152 x 864 supported? -
I just had another chat session with HP and this time they told me that on a dv4000 with the Radeon X700 external analog monitors are supported up to 2048 x 1536, the same resolution supported by the X700. That's a better answer for me and it makes more sense, but I now have gotten two different answers from HP, so I still would appreciate confirmation from dv4000 owners.
