When I was researching laptops a couple of weeks ago I saw a thread on here where somebody said their dv4000 boots up real fast, in about 40 seconds. My new dv4000 boots up all the way in about 1:15 which feels significantly longer than 40 seconds. I was wondering how fast everyone elses boots up.

And also, I was wondering about disabling things in the startup menu. I've gone into msconfig and unchecked everything (a list of about 20) and it still seems to boot up in the same amount of time. And about disabling start menu programs, after disabling, I restart the computer and a prompt appears saying something about being in a different mode. Is everything normal if I just check to not have that message appear anymore? It tells me to choose normal mode of boot up in msconfig, but if I just choose to disable the items in the list is everything running as it normally would? I hate those dumb bubbles that come up on start up telling me that I have a wireless connection available.

They probably have a faster hard drive which would explain the difference.

    I have the 5400, I don't think HP offered a faster one.

They could have upgraded to 7200. My ThinkPads goes from pushing on button to logon screen in about 20-25 seconds.
