Hi all. I just got an HP dv4040 on Thursday. It wasn't the computer I wanted after reading the reviews here (father got me this instead of the dv1000 I asked for), but it just seems to be a bigger version of the same computer and I'm very happy with it. :hp:

I've heard many people praise the speakers on this computer, but I have a problem. I'm afraid to really crank them since a slight distortion noise occasionally comes up. Taking it back would be a last resort as I live outside of the US where it was purchased and would have to take it back whenever I make a trip there (every few months). Is there any quick fix for this and is this a reoccurring problem with other dv4000's?

Also, on the dv4040us review, theres a mention of a wireless driver that improved the functionality of the wireless system for the reviewer, but I haven't found mention of it on this site. Anyone know where I can get it and if its worth it? Review here

    Thanks in advance.

I also wanted a DV1000, but my dad got me a DV4000 at Costco because of some rebates going on, had to pay no tax and of its generous return policy.

That's funny. My dad got the dv4000 because he knows someone who works at an electronics store and they didn't have any dv1000's.

Anyone have an answer to the questions?

Thanks. Will I still be able to use the HP Wireless Assistant and other preinstalled software with that driver?

Yes, you shouldn't have any problems using the HP software after installing original Intel drivers.

Anyone have any idea on the distortion? Can a driver fix that? Cause at this point I'm really afraid to us them in fear that i may damage them.
