Hello, I'm considering purchasing an HP dv4t. Right now I'm choosing between the HP and a Toshiba model. I wonder two things. . . 1. if someone might please advise about the preferred brand --(and why, since quality matters more to me) and 2. if someone could please advise about the best choice for the dv4t processor and graphics card? I want to be sure I'm getting a dedicated graphics card and that I can upgrade later.

    Information is as follows:
Toshiba: $700- model A505-S6965 Intel Core 2 Dual Processor P7350
ATI Radeon HD 4750 graphics w/ 512 mb memory

HP dv4t: $850- See options below. I was thinking the P7350 processor and the Intel graphics accelerator. . . but is that the same as a dedicated graphics card? The NVIDIA card adds $150 to the computer cost. . . it would be good to know if that's worth it!

    Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T6500 (2.1GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
    Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor P7350 (2.0GHz, 3 MB L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
    Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor P7550 (2.26GHz, 3 MB L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
    Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor P8700 (2.53 GHz, 3 MB L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
    Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T9550 (2.66 GHz, 6 MB L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB)

    Graphics card choices:
    Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD
    512MB NVIDIA GeForce G 105M

Big thank yous to anyone who is able to help me. . . I'm not very adept at this process!

I believe the Intel GMA 4500 MHD is using shared memory?

I'd get the Toshiba. It is DDR3. Can play WoW at high/max settings.

First of all you cant upgrade a graphic card on a laptop

I would get the toshiba its has better graphic card the Geforce G 105M is much weaker than the HD4570 and its a cheaper than the Dv4t but the DV4T is very portable since its a 14in" while the toshiba is 16" desktop replacement. Btw what you going use the laptop for?

The graphics cards in the two laptops are not even close. Both cards for the HP (Intel integrated, and nVidia dedicated) are very weak cards, meant for only basic use, while the card in the Toshiba (4570, not 4750) is a midrange card for mild gaming and other tasks. Neither cards are upgradable, which is pretty much true for all laptops.

Both brands are very similar. Fill out an FAQ in the WNSIB section, and read the stickies for more.

Thanks, everyone. This info is really helpful. I care less about portability than I do getting the best computer for the money.

if a 14" laptop isn't a necessity, perhaps you should consider the HP dv6t, with a better GPU option.
