    Hello,

I currently own a dv5-1235dx. The native resolution for this laptop is 1280x800. However, when I connect the HDMI cable to my laptop, the maximum resolution my display settings will allow is 1024x768. This makes it look awful on the TV, stretching a 4:3 display across a 16:9 screen. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Make sure that isnt the Max resolution of the TV. And check your TV's settings as well.

You could try forcing a certain resolution, if you have an Nvidia, via. the Nvidia Control Panel. ;)

I don't have Nvidia, it's all Intel. And I don't believe it's my television, because if it was, my computer should still let me at least set the resolution to 1280x800.

Try setting the TV to be the primary display. The laptop will then look a little strange with bars on top and bottom but it should all fit on both screens that way.
