Managed to get the xp installation to complete successfully by putting the sata driver into the xp cd.
Unfortunately when I boot xp normally I get the BSOD immediately after the Windows splash screen!
Similarly during the next boot the safe mode page is displayed Windows did not start . However it will NOT boot into Safe Mode either. Shows the list of drivers loading and stops at mup.sys and you guessed it BSOD.
I Googled mup.sys So, What happens after we see the mup.sys driver load on a safe mode boot? The windows OS is looking in the registry, executing PnP (Plug and pray) and ACPI routines checking the components and resources found ..
In other words it could take 100 years to figure this out! Sure dont what to give up though.
Any thoughts or suggestions for me to try please?

I hope you get the system up and running, because my dv5-1003 is awaiting a solution too
I've tried unsuccessfully to get XP installed, and I can't. I work with computers for my job and even im stumped! -
Steps taken to get WinXP installed?

Please keep us updated, I really only want a dv5t if XP can fully run on it (all drivers working 100%). Else I will have to settle for the older series. Can anyone else help out with XP on a dv5t? This is the last piece of info I am waiting on before buying.

You best be looking for a new brand, HP's havent been XP friendly for a while now
-
Finally got it working!
The big picture is to get the SATA HD drivers going in a twofold manor. First to make the SATA HD available so you have a place to install XP (Text Mode driver install TXTSETUP.SIF) and then to permanently force the install of the drivers so that XP will boot after the install (WINNT.SIF OemDrivers and OemInfFiles). I did Not use nLite, I edited the XP CD ISO file with UltraISO manually.
Here is the GUIDE I basicly followed, there are many others too. Just substitude the AMD/ATI info.
http://www.planetamd64.com/index.php?showtopic=8532
Expand the ATI package from here to get the drivers
http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=xp/integrated-xp
Locate driver in RAID7xx folder
Copy ONLY the ahcix86.sys to I386 folder on CD
Edit your TXTSETUP.SIF (I386 folder CD) adding each line to each section:
Code:[SourceDisksFiles] ahcix86.sys = 1,,,,,,_x,4,1 [HardwareIdsDatabase] PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4391&SUBSYS_30F2103C = "ahcix86" [SCSI.load] ahcix86 = ahcix86.sys,4 [SCSI] ahcix86 = "AMD AHCI Compatible RAID Controller"
Place ahcix86.sys, ahcix86.cat, ahcix86.inf in the oemdir above.
In the i386 folder Edit the winnt.sif per below.
I used following winnt.sif for good measure, it has an error and will stop the install so you can manually add your user name and computer name once that has been done the install continues fine.
Add your product key to this winnt.sif in place of the xxxxx-xxxxx-..:
Code:;SetupMgrTag [Data] OemDrivers=OemInfFiles MsDosInitiated="0" UnattendedInstall="Yes" [Unattended] OemPreinstall=Yes TargetPath=\WINDOWS DriverSigningPolicy=Ignore NonDriverSigningPolicy=Ignore [OemInfFiles] OemDriverFlags=1 OemDriverPathName="%SystemRoot%\OemDir" OemInfName="ahcix86.inf" [GuiUnattended] AdminPassword=* EncryptedAdminPassword=NO OEMSkipRegional=1 TimeZone=85 OemSkipWelcome=1 [UserData] ProductKey="xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx" [RegionalSettings] LanguageGroup=1,7,11
As for the other drivers only did two so far:
Choose Display Driver (Catalyt 8.4) from here:
http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/xp/previous/integrated/integrated-cat84-xp.html
The Atheros AR5007 Wireless Driver for Vista works (also contains XP):
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp39001-39500/sp39403.exe -
Yes I did find the XP audio driver for the dv5-1002nr. Actually it was right under my nose in the folder that came with the machine, SWsetup, I had saved that before re-formatting the HDD.
-
I'm going to make a tutorial on the WIN XP install for the DV5/7 series later.

hi, i just got a dv5-1002nr laptop and been googling for ways to install xp to it and foudn this thread!. i think its a little hard to do what you did, is it possible to contact you via email and ask you some questions kingtutnet ? i would apreciate it very much,
hope you get this,
regards -
-
Nevermind, some how I managed to force in the audio. Amy idea what the two unknown devices are in hardware manager that I have left?
-
Nevermind again, one was the ENE CIR driver
one of the various packages out there has something that will work for XP, the other was the Quick Access Keys or whatever, got those working also. Not got the remote figured out yet -
Jhoss--Would it be possible to upload your modified XPPro disk? I just can't get it to work. I have a web server I can let you upload to.
Brett -
please jhossman it would be a great help, how can we get in touch ?
regards, -
-
Thx to Kingtutnet for his instructions!! I got XP working on my dv5 1002nr only hours after the best buy geek told me it wasn't possible. Where there's a will there's a way!!
There are still 6 items in device manager that need drivers. I need help finding drivers for:
Ethernet controller
Audio
Touchpad **Edit, I used the vista driver from HP support and it worked fine
and I have 2 unknown devices still. -
mines installing as i type this, im going to dual boot until i can find all the drivers. I think i have an idea of what the unknown drivers are. One's another wireless (i think, i cant remember) and the other is for the touch pad at the top of the keyboard. When i did a clean vista install i grabbed drivers from HP's site for this laptop model and those drivers were unknown devices. I had to download drivers for another HP laptop.
-
can you guys comment on battery life under XP? I think I have to do the switch regardless as I can not stand this cartoonish Vista ****...
-
for those who have working drivers, could you list your sources to obtain them?
edit:
I have 2 drivers left so far
SM System Bus
Unknown Device
The unknown device I believe is HP's ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection.
Also my audio works but sounds horrible. I got whatever drivers I could from HP, and then ran Windows update which puts me here. -
I can be reached on AIM and MSN ...details in my sig
You seem to be a step ahead of my flipfont. Do you recall where you got your ethernet driver? my wireless works, but not the ethernet port.
I still need drivers for
2 PCI Devices
SM Bus Controller
2 Unknown devices
Ethernet Controller -
Only thing left for me in device manager is "Unknown Device"
My audio is working but makes popping sounds occasionally. I haven't tested the microphone or audio out ports though. Anyone have ideas with that? I think I got the wrong driver along the way, and dont have access to SWSetup that originally came with the laptop. This driver was provided by Windows Update.
I got the SM Bus controller by installing the ATI software posted earlier that included the south bridge driver.
My IR remote seems to work perfectly.
The QuickTouch buttons located on the top of the keyboard works fine, but the mute button refuses to change colors. Any suggestions anyone? -
I am still getting the mup.sys error after following kingtuts installation guidlines on the subsequent reboots. and
Does anyone have a xp pro build they can recommend? i am trying to use this: http://www.allyoulike.com/?p=4986
As my other option is my XP Home.
As my Ubuntu cd works i can add drivers and mod files does anyone have any suggestions. or further instructions cause im just stuck. -
I tried another build:
http://www.allyoulike.com/?p=4204
and added the changes to the files, however this build didn't have the winnt.sif file so i just used the txtsetup.sif and saved as to winnt.sif used mr.tuts text.
I hope someone puts a guide together with the links to and names of all the appropriate drivers with the how to slipstream them either manual or with nlite if appropriate. -
Yes, my install disk didn't have the winnt.sif either, so you just have to create it manually. Don't forget to add your XP key in winnt.sif file.
First time I tried Kingtutnet's method I got a BSoD just as he described in his first post, after the initial xp splash screen. The mistake I made was on this step "Create the \$OEM$\$$\OEMDIR folders in root directory on the CD." Make sure you create 3 separate folders "$OEM$" "$$" and "OEMDIR" and put the files in the OEMDIR one. I made a bonehead mistake of creating one folder called "\$OEM$\$$\OEMDIR" in the root directory of the cd.
Once you get into XP you can install the ATI Drivers here.
http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=xp/integrated-xp
The Southbridge driver will get rid of the SM BUS yellow device in Device mgr.
You can download the Quick Launch drivers from the HP site, it's the only driver they have listed under XP. The touchpad driver - I used the Vista 32 bit version
The Atheros AR5007 Wireless Driver for Vista works (also contains XP):
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp39001-39500/sp39403.exe
running windows update and upgrading to service pack 3 actually fixed all of the remaining unknown driver issues for me. (ethernet & Audio)
So while I have no more yellow flags in device manager, I'm experiencing the exact same issues that flipf0nt mentioned

If anyone comes across a pagefault BSOD error it seems to be connected to a bad driver choice(s), I being the easy way out guy installed the whole ATI Catalyst application instead of picking out the individual drivers. End result was increased function till reboot then as mentioned above i would get a pagefault bsod error and sequential memory dump.
solution was to boot to a safemode and uninstall the catalyst from Add/remove programs.
As im the only one that will make this mistake this post is pointless but i like pointless rantings. -
Audio popping can be aleviated by disableing the power management fuction under the IDT Audio Control Panel. Hope this helps
-
What IR driver did you use? I have the dv5t so chances are it's different, but my remote doesn't appear to work under XP.

I need help I have followed everyones tips, and am now stuck at the first boot after all the installs are done. I have the Text mode completed normally, the gui mode completed normally all with out errors. On the first boot I get a blue screen and it reboots so quick I cant even read what it says. Anyone have any ideas, I have tried safe mode with the same result, I can attach my files if someone can look, or maybe someone can attach the files they used and I will try in my build Thank you.
Attached is all folders I created and files that are in there respective folders I am using OEM SP3 buildAttached Files:

Formula84,
your problem is how you setup the directories on your XP cd. You have the $OEM$, $$, and OEMDIR directories as separate folders in the root directory of the disk, but you need to have them nested. OEMDIR has your files and sits inside $$ which sits inside $OEM$. $OEM$ should be on the root directory of the cd, but the others are not. Hope that makes sense. -
how'd you get IR remote working?
-
Hello.
I did precisely all the mentioned tips and burned an ISO:
It didn't work on my dv5-1035eo laptop. I'm still facing BSOD when I should be getting into start install-screen.
So doesn't this apply on my laptop-model or what? Any help appreciated! -
Thank you, this worked great much appreciated!
-
if your able to load all the initial drivers and get to the Windows Installation console... then you have part (A) done, but when you pick what you want to do with the harddrive partition format etc.. and you select a partition to install to and you get things installed but it fails on reboot then Part (B) of Kingtuts posts on pg1 was not done correctly. If you cannot even get all the initial drivers loaded before in BSOD's on you then check to make sure your files are located in the correct folder(s) the folders aren't named wrong. And double check your entries in the Winnt.sif and txtsetup.sif and make sure they are in the right folder as well. check my previous post for a xp version that worked for me.
-
make sure you go to microsoft and get all the software and hardware updates there are quite a few i believe one of these takes care of the IR.
-
i'm using HP DV5-1000us, i installed the windows XP x64, but i can't find driver for my pc, HP.com no support windows xp x64.

Actually, now (usin nLite it didnt work), but now it went to deleting previous windows, and started copying new files...and it stopped - sayeng:
Setup cannot copy the files: cmnicfg.xml, ipcfg.xml, osinfo.xml, potscfg.xml,pppcfg.xml
I've skipped it by Esc, will it be ok installation, anyone seen that happening????
...
Finally got it formatted, trying to install it all over...

ok, installed it. the errors in the first place happened because i was trying to install XP from a different laptop recovery cd, but with clean XP it went ok.
Thanks for tutorial !!!!!!!!!!!! -
