    Hi

I just finished having an intresting converstion with HP online tech support:

    Code:
    Sydni: Hello James
Sydni: Welcome to HP Total Care for Pavilion Notebooks,
My name is Sydni. How may I help you today?
James Mckee: Hi, I would like to know if I buy PC3200
memory for my dv5000z CTO notebook, will it work?
    Sydni: Okay
Sydni: James I have checked the configurations
Sydni: It wont work with PC3200
Sydni: It only works with the following memory
    Sydni: PC2700 DDR1-333 Small Outline
    Dual In-Line Memory Module (SODIMM)
James Mckee: Ok so I need to get PC2700 only?
Sydni: If you buy PC3200 memory it would only run at PC2700,
and it could also damage the motherboard.
    James Mckee: ok thank you
Before listening to the tech's advise, I thought I would ask here.

If I buy a stick of 1GB PC3200 DDR memory will it work on my dv5000z?

    Thank you.

Yes. I recommend Crucial 1GB PC3200 SODIMMs. I have two in my dv8000z. See mwave.com and newegg.com. Always verify your new memory configuration with a tool like MemTest86+ just to be thorough.

Ok so HP online tech support don't know what they are talking about? And I should just buy PC3200?

    TIA

I use PC3200 for my dv5000z and it definitely works, but a reviewer from another website told me that the notebook's BIOS doesn't utilize that speed fully, but that this could change in the future.

Ok thanks for the input guys!

One more question i found this: pqi 1GB will this work on my dv5000z? (Doesn't matter if it runs at lower than PC3200, as z5sharp said this could change in the future. Just want to know if this will work on this NB.)

    Thank you!

Yes, the memory will work. The mandates are 200-pin and either PC3200 or PC2700, which it has. Not a bad price, either. The memory door has screws and I accidentally stripped one of them so I had a nice time getting the memory installed. Just be careful! Have fun with your new dv5000z, I know I am.
