    This is bothering me...

An HP UK page and an HP support technician both say the dv5000z uses DDR 333MHz PC2700 RAM... however, I've heard from a member here that it actually takes DDR 400MHz PC3200 RAM. I can't clarify which type it takes unless I see for myself on the system, but I haven't ordered it yet. I'm trying to buy RAM separately but can't determine the memory type. Can someone clarify this?

ok, so the notebook comes with 333MHz but supports 400MHz?

Yes. All AMD based systems currently sold support upto DDR400 memory.

Also, would there have to be a new BIOS version to support DDR400 RAM, or does it offer support already?

It should as it shares most of the internals with the dv8000z and even the V2000z which are proven to accept DDR400 memory without any issues. Also check the review of the dv5000z, the reviewer did mention that he used DDR400 memory with the machine.

Thanks again! I'm just trying not to spend extra money on memory if it doesn't matter.
