dv5t & HDMI

Hi,

I am thinking of getting this hp, but wanted to know whether the graphics card X4500 comes with HDMI port or do I need the 9200M or 9600M?

I think you'll need a dedicated card for that...if you click the "Help Me Decide" button as you build the notebook on the site, only the 9200 and 9600 have an HDMI feature stated on the description. If you're not going to game and just watch HD movies, I'd get the 9200 as it produces considerably less heat than the more powerful 9600 gt. Especially if all you want is the HDMI feature.

Unless I'm wrong, only the dedicated cards have HDMI. It would be nice if someone who bought a dv5t with a x4500 integrated card could say whether or not their notebook came with an HDMI for reha to clarify things...

 

I appreciate your thoughts. I am thinking the same that X4500 does not come with the HDMI. Yes, I did notice that the X4500 description did not mention the HDMI port. So, when you get X4500 that port space of HDMI is empty, I presume? I don't play games, mostly for emails, web, photo editing, etc. At this point I am still debating whether to get a dedicated card or go with the X4500 and save on battery and some heat...

 

or you could just get the HP dv5z, which even with the ATI 3200HD (thats the integrated graphics card) surpasses the NIVIDIA 9200 in power and it still comes with HDMI. The only thing with the HP dv5z is that you need to get the high capacity 6 cell battery to get good battery life which is like $30. But other than the extra $30 for the battery, you definitely get alot more for your money with the HP dv5z.

 

Honestly,
I would invest in a dedicated grafix card...
It future proofs you laptop...
You don't know what is going to come out in the future that you want to run that may be too graphics intensive...
Hell, fairly new laptops cant run vista because they don't have a dedicated card...
Sure it runs hot but....so what...the new 9 series don't have the same issues as the older defective 8 cores.
When I am not running a game...my dv5t with 9600 runs cool...not an ice cube..but not a heater...just right...

It looks like with X4500, I should be ok with PS CS3. My main use would be mail, web, photos, ms office stuff, video chat. The main question, considering what I am going to do, do I even need a dedicated card? I would consider the dedicated card but I am not sure what kind of temperature increase would result compared to X4500 and also difference in battery lifetime. Anyone have any ideas on those? Also, until when the 30% coupon is valid?

 

For your use X4500 is fine.

 

One other question, if I choose the X4500 I will not have the "ethernet" port, right? From the description of the add-on, it shows for the 9200M and 9600M cards have but not the X4500. Also, can someone take a picture of side (where ports are) of your dv5t with X4500? please? thank you!

 

I just PM'd you regarding your questions. My dv5t, with P8400/X4500, *does*
have HDMI and eSata ports. I haven't used them, yet, so I can't say for
sure if they are functioning properly, but they aren't blocked-off, like some
of the other ports on my machine(1394, TV/cable, RJ-11). Of course, there
is also an ethernet port, which is default on all dv5ts. You must be thinking
of the RJ-11 modem port, which is only functional if your laptop has that
option.

I have to tell you that PS CS3 works flawlessly with my machine. I don't have
to sit around, waiting forever for images to load, etc. I also have a custom-
built desktop, which has a 3.4Ghz P4, OCZ Gold, low-latency RAM, Seagate
Barracuda HDD, etc. I find that my little dv5t is comparable, speedwise.

even the older dell inspiron 1525, which has a X3100 integrated graphics has a HDMI port... but i'm not sure how good it worx

 

It would be interesting to see how it handles the importing of movies with the hdmi from hd video camera.
