    Hey Guys,
I've been looking at the 12 cell battery to go along with my dv5t for the extra battery life. I know that the 12 cells battery raises the back part of the dv5t up quite some bit. Would that negate or 'contradict' the use of the colling fan (Zalman NC1000). Since the battery pack is elevate, the full laptop wouldn't be able to make contact with the cooling fan, correct??
Or would it still match up?

The 12 cell battery does elevate it giving the fan plenty of space between it and the desktop. I don't think the cooling fan is necessary...but I am not gaming and that's what makes the computer really hot.

The 12 cell battery makes the cooling fan basically useless. If you absolutely want to make a cooler just make (or buy) a couple USB fans and make your own cooling station that fits up to the laptop snugly with the battery in.

Is a cooling fan necessary for typical usage? A little gamming, and the usual internet, and school (essay) stuff?

So, I've got a 12-cell on my dv5t. The CPU gets up to 71-72C max and the GPU to the high 60's while running benchmarks. In typical internet/office/light game stuff, it's cooler than that. I don't think I'd bother with additional fans, but I would recommend making sure you're in an uncluttered area.

    Hope that helps.
