I want to do a clean install, and this seems that it has the OS, which my original dv5t did not come with. Right now i'm reordering and sending my current one back and i was wondering should i get the OS recovery media for 19$ in order to do a clean install?

No, don't bother. That disk doesn't contain a clean copy of Vista. If you use that, you'll also install all of the junk software that came preinstalled on the one you sent back.

Really, are you sure? It's already too late anyway, I was ordering it earlier on the phone (not as simple as just buying one, i'm returning my current one for diff configuration) and already confirmed it :\. I asked the person who was helping me if it restored it to factory settings, she said no, it just repaired or restored vista.

Any recovery media that is available to sell from the manufacturer as an add on will be the exact same disc that you can make. So, while yes, it will reinstall the system if you have a failure, it will be a factory image, not a clean vista install.

It's still always good to have. If you wanted to experiment with other operating systems on your notebook you can rest assured that you have a backup. It's $19, but at least if you break it or lose it they'll send you another copy.

Through the Start Menu, there is a recovery thing (instruction on one of the paper) that allows you to make your own copy of these discs. You need 3 DVD discs to do this. This is cheaper.
Wise of them, saving money on media and paper (no big thick manual no one reads). Now if only they can get rid of those weird wireless/bluetooth paper and put it on the HP documents too, that would be awesome. I find those annoying, they keep falling out everywhere when I look through them.
dv5t OS recovery media, should i buy?
