My notebook has recently been losing internet connection very often. I don't have to move or anything, it just loses connection. I have a verizon fios router, i've had this notebook since September 08' and never had this problem before. My signal strength is full.

My device manager says my network adapters are:

    -Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN
-RealTek RTL8168(C)P/8111(C)P Family PCI-E GBE NIC

Could it have something to do with my wireless mouse? If I switch it to wired mode, my laptop still loses connection to the internet.

Also, as a side question, how do i stop windows update from trying to install the same update over and over?

Seems to be a common issue. Mine does it too. I'm in to see a resolution. My DV5 only does that at certain places. It works fine at my house though so i haven't worried about it that much.

It does it at my gf's house though. It's super annoying. Everyone always says its the router, but I know it isn't bc my laptop is the only one that loses connection.

mine did that for a while... wireless was fine but wired internet would reset randomly...

go to the "latest drivers" thread and download the latest realtek driver (installation version), or the latest wireless driver if wireless is your problem..

for me it hasn't been dropping internet connection since :)

Yes possible, but the dv5 "should" not have this problem. I wonder if anyone is having similair issues with the broadcom WLAN card (b,g only)?

I have also heard that the Intel WLAN "n" cards have connection issues when you are using a "b or g" based network. It seems that the card keeps trying to re-connect to the network via the "n" thus causing connection issues.

It is recommended to disable the "n" tech via the driver.

    Try this...
    - go the the device manager
    - select Network adapters
    - double click on the Intel WiFi adapter.
    - select the advanced tab
    - under Property... select 802.11n mode.
    - disable

okay i just did that, it will take a while to know if it fixed the problem or not, i have to wait to see if i lose connection again.

but its odd that this just started happening now.
