Hey all. I'm wondering if, when I hook up an external monitor to my laptop, I can make it so I can look at one thing on the laptop screen, and something else on the external screen. Basically I'm big in to technical analysis of stocks as a hobby, and use several different charting programs. I'm trying to be able to look at one program on my laptop screen and another on the external screen. If there isn't a way to do this directly, is there some trickery I could pull that would make it work, ie a linux distro with this type of support, or some other software?

    Thanks,
    Ryan

    "extend desktop"

People aren't using dual monitor setups for 3D effect with crooked eyes, of course you can extend the desktop to both monitors and arrange the program windows as you see fit :)
