I notice the special edition model also only has the GMA4500 as a graphics option....

I was going to order one soon. My first laptop.

Should I look at the 16inch hp?

If it fits within your budget. Just keep in mind that the 9600M GT is not offered, and the 9200M GS is absurdly expensive........

If you are in the market for the 9600m GT then I would also look at the HDX16.

I cannot believe this. I've done a lot of research, and decided I wanted a 15.4 inch laptop with a 1680 x 1050 resolution. I've also decided that this "HD" thing on all new laptops is ridiculous -- the HDXs, the Sonys, the new XPSs all offer much less vertical real estate, which is not acceptable unless you only use this device to watch movies.

So I had it down to the Asus N50, the Thinkpad T500, and the dv5t. The Asus keyboard and touchpad is terrible, so I crossed that out after having a look. I was down to the Thinkpad and the dv5t, but was leaning towards the HP because its cheaper and has better sound and a better display (though I think the Thinkpad is better built and has a much better keyboard, flex aside).

Now I see the dv5t is offered in some silly white color, with ONLY the 'infinity display,' meaning constant glare. For all of the "choice" out there its pretty tough for someone who knows what they want...

the dv5t going away, I could see.......not having a great mid-range GPU on anything but two of the largest lappys in the lineup isn't a smart idea though (esp. when those two larger models deserve something better in the first place)

Then again....if you read the Inquirer's series on nVidia's defective GPU problem ( here, here and here), maybe this is a good thing after all....

Seems like an odd move considering it is one of their most popular mid-range laptops!

It wouldn't surprise me that they removed the DV5t since the higher configuration models (Mainly the 9600M GT models) are conflicting with the HDX 16 sales.

So is the calling in on the dv5t lounge thread true? They say they are pushing the stupid HDX...
Does HP usually do this? Surely a 15 in will come back around soon (with a decent GPU)? I was just about to buy it as well :(

I doubt they are pushing the HDX, diversifying is the way to go. They are likely just simply out of stock due to the sheer demand for this model.
