I've been eyeing the dv5t on HP.com but at Costco today I saw the dv6.
Which would you choose and why? Or is the scnreen size the only difference?

The dv5t. Primarily because it offers a better GPU (the 9600M GT) at a lower price point, but also because of the better WSXGA+ display options (1680x1050 vs 1366x768 in the dv6).
The dv6 does have a refreshed processor lineup, but whether that offers any tangible benefits is debatable. *(For example.....the P7350 in the dv5t and P7450 in the dv6 have the same amt. of L2 memory cache and same FSB speed....the only difference is the clock speed of the processor, 2.0GHz for the P7350 and 2.13GHz for the P7450)* -

Dv5t Height/Width
1.7"/14.1"
Dv6t Height/Width
1.33-1.65"/14.9"
((These are overall figures, not just the screens themselves)) -

I got curious too but couldn't find the size for 16", only 15.4":
Active Area (W x H) 13.0 x 8.1 in (33.1 x 20.7 cm)
Diagonal Size 15.4 in (39.1 cm)
Calculated the size for the 16", which I assume is 16:9 ratio?
(16/x)² + (9/x)² = 16²
x = 1.147...
Width: 16/x = 13.95" = 35.4 cm
Height: 9/x = 7.84" = 19.9 cm -

Yeah I'd like to see 4:3 ratio laptops again, the smaller laptop the more frustrating it is with widescreen, it's just not enough height. How come they're all optimized for movies???
On desktops it's not really a problem, and you make use of the widescreen easier when the resolution is high enough, more than 1680 pixels.
Most standard or entertainment laptops have too low resolution with for a side by side use, in the dv6 I think it's only 1366, not enough. -

My vote is also for the dv5t, for four reasons-
1- The nVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT is availlabe on the dv5t, but not on the dv6t
2- The dv5t offers a high-resolution WSXGA+ (1680x1050) display option
3- The dv5t is a much better value as currently priced at HP.com
4- I prefer a display with a traditional 16:10 aspect ratio, compared to the new trend of 16:9.
The graphics card options for the dv5t are currently reduced-
nVIDIA 9200M GS is only $25, usually $100 upgrade
nVIDIA 9600M GT is only $50, usually $200 upgrade
For comparison, the 9200M GS costs $200 on the dv6t!
A dv5t with T5800 processor, WSXGA+ (1680x1050) display, 2GB RAM, the 9600M GT graphics card and Wireless-N can be had for under $900...a great deal, in my opinion! -
The 9200 scores only 1200 in 3D06, while the 9600 does 5150, a huge difference.
As a comparison, the three year old mid range ATI X1600 does 1800.
dv5t or the dv6?
