About last week the power brick for my dv5t that i bought in mid august was beeping. i unplugged it and plugged it back in and it stopped so that was it. on wednesday it kept beeping and wouldnt charge. so i called support and waited half an hour for them to send me a new one. after banging it on the floor a few times it started working again. does anyone know what the beeping means? im assuming something inside is loose since it started working after hitting it a few times. should i keep this power brick when i get the new one or just throw it away?

If you are still under warranty, I would ask HP to send a new power brick since it is defective.

Just ask HP for a new power brick. They will send you a new one and they dont even require to send you the old one back. I have done this twice with two diffrent laptops that needed new ones.

    Beeping? That's really weird.
Mine makes a really high pitched whining noise :(

well hp messed up and i have to wait another week before i get a new power adaptor.

this is probably a stupid question but i have a dell power adaptor that fits in the dv5t. the problem is the voltage is slightly higher. the dell adaptor outputs 19.5v at 4.62A while the hp outputs 19v at 4.74A. im pretty sure its not safe to plug in the dell adaptor because of the higher voltage. but theres a part of me that thinks 19.5v should fine since it should be within the range of the original power adaptors voltage fluctuations.
