Hey guys. Im kinda scared about my dv5t. I just got it on sept 9th and it sseems to be having screen problems. It flickers occasionally, I think. I just restarted it, and the screen didn't start at all, the welcome music on vista played and everything, but the screen was blank! I am using 177.98 drivers on my nvidia, and for some reason the digital vibrance resets to 100% after logging in to my profile. This didn't happen when I had 177.92, but for some reason hd content didn't work that well on 177.92, so i went back. So anyway, what the hell is going on? Do I have a faulty nvidia card?

Possibly, try restoring to original setting and seeing if you are still having graphics problems, could just be drivers.

Alright, I will have to try. Something is definitely up. today, now when I try to play hd video, the whole screen flickers noticeably so the video is unwatchable! Also, on the desktop, when aero is enabled, it flickers as well. Something is definitely up with the gpu or driver.

I rolled back drivers to original. The screen is still having extreme problems. Today, the screen just stopped working, and faded to white, after the roll back. The problem is not the driver, its the hardware. I am so ****ing pissed. I've had the computer a month. **** hp, **** this ****. I'm gonna try to return it. I dont need to deal with this **** right now.

I had this exact same issue 2 months after receiving my DV5T. Initially the screen flickered randomly. Then it started occuring more frequently. Sometimes the screen would fade out to either complete black or complete white. The screen would even scramble sometimes (this was after the problem became severe). Adjusting the screen carefully was a temporary solution; this was how I figured out that it was a hardware issue. I sent my DV5T in for repair and received it back 6 days later with a new screen (I had dead pixels and dust stuck underneath the infinity display as well) and the issue was resolved. However the quicktouch panel was badly damaged during the repair.   The techs left a huge scratch/chip/crack on the touchpanel. In addition, the frame of the new LCD was badly scratched. So I recently sent it back in for repair. I hope they don't damage it this time. BTW, I took pictures of my DV5T before sending it in the first time as proof of the condition it was in prior to the repair. You should probably do the same. Good luck.

I had the same problem. I sent them the laptop, while obviously it is hardware issue, they re-imaged my hardisk and replaced the motherboard. Of course it DID NOT solve the problem. I spent a whole day on re-installing and configuring the laptop as I like just to find that the problem still exists!!! I am really mad and don't know what to do

i think it's your ribbon cable not properly connected/failing.

it happened with my old gateway laptop.. screen would flicker, moving screen back and forth would solve the problem temporarily. after doing that for a long time (while the problem got worse and worse) the screen just went almost completely dark -- you had to put a flashlight right up against the screen to barely see that the screen was actually displaying.

so if u have warranty send it in to get the screen/cable replaced, or just open it up and check the connection yourself...

Just to update, the laptop returned from HP 1 month ago and they did replace the cable this time and did NOT formatted my drive.

Suggestion: if it is happening to you, make a video of the problem and put this video on the desktop, it will help them to see what's the problem is since it doesn't happen all the time.

Here I am 1.5 years after purchase and this piece of is doing this again(aside from the fact that my original battery holds no charge anymore either). The first time I got it repaired by hp. Now, it is out of warranty, and I am very ing pissed at hp. I will never buy an hp laptop again. that being said, does anyone know how to repair this issue themselves? It seems its a cable/video board problem, does anyone have an easy fix?

Black shadow bouncing at top of screen when moved. Motherboard was already replaced once when the monitor just stopped working all together. Anyone else have this? Mine has a faint black bar that bounces at the top of the screen.
