How good is the audio quality on the dv5t? I just returned a new Dell
Studio 15, because the speakers were super tinny and shrill. I'm not
expecting audiophile quality - just decent response that's good enough
to casually enjoy along with DVDs, CDs, etc.

I've listened to a few Hp Pavillions and the speakers, while not great,
seem to be OK. I'm wondering if the dv5t speakers sound similar.

Bear in mind that this review is of the Dv5z but the speakers on the Dv5t should be the same.

HP's altec lansing speakers are worlds better then Dells generic crapola speakers. Its not just speaker output that makes a speaker. Its also its ability to image and create a decent sound stage with good separation. In this regard, the altec lansing are much more successful then Dell's speakers. If you really want to take this up another notch look into Toshiba's new fusion line. They have the Harman Kardon speakers that deliver nice sound and more bass.

You can even order it with the ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 3650 with 512MB DDR2 discrete memory. That would make this a real powerhouse for gaming. But generally speaking, the toshiba gets high marks for a nice looking display and better then average speakers. I definitely get one if I were in the market for another 15" notebook.
