Greetings.. i'm being given a dv5t with x4500 integrated. Does anyone know if this can be later upgraded with dedicated graphics in the future? Can't seem to find the answer to this anywhere. Thanks!

No it cannot be upgraded. Its directly soldered to the system board.

About 95% of notebooks do not have an upgradable GPU.

nope... integrated graphics is soldered directly on the motherboard... so it's permanent... no upgrades possible...

I don't think you can. Just sell the dv5t for as much as possible and buy a new dv5t with dedicated graphics with the multitudes of specials and coupons floating around right now at HP. Never a more opportune time to purchase a new HP with the truly incredible deals going on right now.

Unless you play games, just stick with what you have. Your laptop isn't going to be any faster if a dedicated GPU is there (except for games obviously).

Would it be possible to desolder the card, say on an old unused test system and solder a new one in?

You also get less battery life with dedicated graphics chip...

    Simple answer : no
More complex answer : yes but you will have to replace your motherboard, heatsink and power supply.
