I bought the dv5t 1.5 yrs ago w/ a 2yr warranty. Lately I've been finding that the laptop makes excessive heat and noise and has a battery life of only 1.5 hrs, which means I have to bring an av adapter every time I carry the laptop making things heavy.
Is there anything I can do about these problems? I'd like to be able to get a partial refund for it. (btw, this has the 9600gt gfx card)

There's nothing to do about the battery, but you should read this so you can make your new battery last longer: http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/helpdesk/?p=124
As for heat and noise, blow compressed air thru the vents and undervolt it. This'll also give you a little more battery life. Heck, my DV5 runs for only 1:30 off the battery since new and i'm not complaining.
But i do have the DV9000 which although bigger and heavier, ran for 4 hours when the battery was in good shape. I've used it a lot and it does need a new battery (even Windows tells me so), but it still makes it past the 2 hour mark with heavy loads.
Cramming that amount of processing power into this tiny shell makes it obvious that it'll run hot. There isn't much that you can do about it and i don't think anyone will offer you a refund. But you can tweak it a bit. On my DV5 undervolting shaved 15C off full load temperatures, which used to hover at a dangerous 94C.
dv5t, too hot, too noisy
