I'm looking at buying one of these laptops from HP's website. I have a question about them though. The dv5tse has an Intel processor and an Intel 4500 integrated graphics card whereas the dv6z has AMD processor and ATI Radeon integrated graphics card or ATI 512MB and 1GB dedicated graphics card. Which one of these combinations is better: Intel, Intel or AMD, ATI? There will be no gaming on this computer. It will be strictly Blu-Ray movies, school work, web, music etc.

It's hard to generalize with just brands - you have to compare specific configurations to other configurations. If you're considering the dv6z, why are you not considering the dv6t though?

In general, you won't need a discrete graphics card for Blu-Ray playback - Intel integrated graphics is sufficient. Intel mobile processors - again, in general, you can find exceptions when comparing marginal cases - are less power-hungry and run cooler than AMD counterparts, but tend to be more expensive.

I just posted the dv6z because the dv6t has the same configuration for integrated cards available as the dv5tse. So heres two specific configurations

    dv5tse:

Intel Core2 Duo Processor P7450 (2.13GHz) with an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD

    vs

    dv6z:

AMD Turion X2 Dual-Core Mobile Processor RM-74 (2.2GHz) with ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics

Im assuming one wouldnt necessarily be better than the other for just doing basic stuff like movie watching, web surfing, etc. but you know what happens when you assume.

Essentially the cpu is better on the dv5tse while the dv6z has the better graphics. However, both should do perfectly fine for the uses you list with maybe one exception with regards to the blu ray and the X4500. I dont know if the issues have been fixed by driver updates but AFAIK initially at least the X4500 had problems running blu ray.
