I am wondering if I choose the dedicated video card option, will there still be an integrated graphic card on the chipset, because I assume that the IGC goes with the Puma platform.
-
Nope...you only get one or the other, not both.
-
From all the research I've done on the M780G chipset, yes, if you opt for the discrete video option (HD3450) you will also have the integrated IGP (HD3200) video. That is one of the hallmarks of the Puma platform. You'll be able to make use of ATI Hybrid CrossFireX (HD3450 and tandem with the HD3200) for better 3D performance.
The HD3200 is part of the M780G chipset that is used in the Dv5z.
I may be wrong, but if so, then a lot of other articles on the subject are wrong then, also.
I have a Dv5z on the way, so I'll post and let you know for sure when I have it. -

Unless the laptop is marketed as dual-GPU...it isn't there. Do check and let us know though. -
It doesn't need to be marketed as a dual GPU. The Dv5z is hybrid crossfire which uses the integrated ATI3200 and discrete 3450. Just read the article http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4478

Are you sure you are right greg???
Right now i am too really confused about this? -
"Hybrid CrossFire is the other big sell here. Basically, if the notebook is equipped with a dedicated Mobility Radeon HD 3400 series GPU, the HD 3400 can actually be run in tandem with the integrated HD 3200, generally resulting in about a 50% performance increase. This is a bigger deal than it appears because the 3400 is a pretty small, inexpensive, low-powered GPU to begin with. Try to imagine putting NVIDIA's low end GeForce 8400M GS in a laptop and the motherboard being able to boost the graphics performance by as much as 50%, and you start to see the value of this technology."
Thats from the article near the bottom. Personally im hoping that it applies to more than just the HD 3400 series. -
-
It should also be noted that the HD3200 ( the IGP ) is almost as powerful as the 8400m GS which for IGP is pretty good IMHO.
-
I asked from 4 hp support ppl. They all said that if we go with dv5z discrete card option we don't get the HD3200 IGP!!!
Correct me if i am wrong... -

I think we need a more authoritative source than HP tech support
...
AFAIK the dv5z with discrete card will do Hybrid Crossfire. That's one of the major marketing points of the new AMD chipset. AMD is even bringing it to their new high-end desktop chipset, the AMD790GX, which will have an even better integrated GPU (Radeon 3300 based on the Radeon 3470 standalone part). Until someone actually gets their hands on an appropriately configured dv5z there's always a chance that this isn't so but I'm 99% certain. -
Edit: Now hes telling me the dv5z isnt compatible with the hd3200?? Wow, way to train your tech agents Hp... -
Well - interestingly hp doesn't use this as a marketing point! i doubt why they wouldn't do it! wouldn't hp marketing team competent enough to jump into hightlighting these crossfire info!
wel, hp support is award winning (they say) - i think they must have won certain awards for categories like "dumbest answer" and "most misleading answer" -
My dv5z is on it's way to me right now. Hopefully I will get it in a few days and I will let you all know for sure!
-
I sincerely wish they sent me a transcript of the conversation so i could post it; im sure it would have many people rollin. -
dunno if this has been answered in other thread so im resurrect this thread again ... so anybody know the answer for this question ?
