OK, so I received my dv5z about 18 days ago. I have it set up so that when I close the lid it goes into hibernation. I've noticed, though, on 3 separate occasions that the keyboard and the touchpad are unresponsive after it returns from hibernation.
As some of you know, HP has a 21-day return policy, no restocking fees or anything else. I'm wondering if I should return the laptop before the 21 days are up or if I should try calling tech support to figure out what the problem is.
To be honest, it freaks me out. I don't buy a new laptop every year, so I'd like this one to last at least 2 before I even think about buying a new one. It's only been 21 days and it's already acting weird though...
I don't know what I'd buy if I returned this one, though. The Studio 15 seems OK but I can't get the 64-bit version of Vista with it. A couple other manufacturers have decent products but I think they're out of my price range. I got the dv5z for $750 shipped, but my budget is $800 or $900.
Any thoughts/advice?

Actually, you can get a Studio with 64 bit. http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&oc=DNDQUW2&s=dhs
Click the link and check under operating system.
The 749$ starting price of the Studio in the link has 2.0 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 3gb Ram, Vista Home Premium 64 bit, and a Radeon HD 3450. -
Cool, thank you.
Does anyone recommend another manufacturer? I'm just wondering what options are available for me at $800-900... -

You might want to look at Lenovo's line? Thinkpad if they're you're thing, or the Ideapad lines.

Have you tried doing a clean install? That usually helps.

No, I haven't tried a clean install. To be honest, I thought the laptop worked fine out of the box (minus a few things I uninstalled).
I'm hesitant to do a clean install because I've never done one with Vista before, and for that matter I didn't even know if that would solve the problem?
Would that solve an issue such as this? -
It might, you never know until you try.
But, this is the first time I've heard of this issue. Maybe you got a defective laptop? You might want to contact HP and ask them about it. I would suggest using their online chat opposed to their phone support because the chat representatives are usually more knowledgeable and have the proper resources to help you.
