This is excellent news! With no white list, does this mean that the Bigfoot killer card will work as well?
-
I'm tempted to just buy the 1103 card on Amazon and see if it works. This 1000 is just the worst. The absolute worst, Jerry!
-
yep its junk, shame on hp.
-
I just ordered the Killer N 1102 from Amazon, so I'll see what kind of luck I have with it on the modded BIOS
-
It seems that the bios modder has given up. It caused a semibrick if you tried to edit the bios and aparently he wasnt able to get it working right. Time to pick up the CEO HP email and start spamming them to remove/edit the whitelist.
-
So all of these people have gotten it to work with a DV6T, what about the Llano AMD equipped DV6Z??
-
The only reason I have ever entered the BIOS setup screen on any PC I've owned is to change the boot order (old school, haven't done it in years) or switching to fixed mode on my dv6t.
I got my Killer card yesterday, but my home is currently without power due to Irene and I am waiting for it to be restored.
As far as the question about the dv6z, you'd have to have that specific BIOS file modded. It's different than the one for the dv6t. -
Sorry about the double post, but I kind of wanted to bump this. My Killer 1102 is installed and works like a dream. Very easy to do. So glad to be rid of that garbage Intel 1000.

Confirmed working on a DV7t-6000 with a Centrino 6200. Tested getting into the bios for the hell of it and it froze like I thought. Oh well, unplugged the CMOS battery for a minute and all was well.
If anyone was curious, the official flasher for the latest bios allows you to overwrite the hacked one, so you can just flash to get back to original, make your change, and go back to hacked. -
Anyone got Centrino 6230 working? When I tried it on original BIOS I didn't get a message about "unauthorized wlan card", just blank screen. Same blank screen with a modded BIOS...The card works just fine on my brother's laptop so it's not broken either.
Can anyone tell me exactly which modded BIOS you flashed and did you flash it in windows or at bootup? I've flashed trough windows using "100% HP DV6 6XXX sp54024 NWL ByCamiloml.exe" -
I replaced mine with a 6230 and its working just fine. Please remember to rename the partition of HP_TOOLS to something else or else even if you replace the bios it will overwrite the modded bios back to the original.

Can someone please post how to hack the bios. I have a HP Pavilion dv7t-6b00 CTO Quad Edition. I have bios Version: F.02

Where can I see the WLAN whitelist for my laptop Dv7-6b54 (Dv7t, broadcom 4313).

Does anyone know if there have been developments on getting better 802.11n wireless cards to work with the new dv6/dv7's, that are blocked on bootup by the BIOS?
-
I got a 6230 working with a modded F.1B BIOS on my DV6T quad, all the drivers were installed and updated automatically.
BUT if you ever try to change bios setting it won't boot. This happened to me, so i removed the cios battery and the 6230 card, booted windows, flashed the stock bios, setup the bios as I wanted (fixed graphics, etc), went back in windows, flashed the modded bios again and reinstalled the 6230 card, been working perfectly ever since. -
Below is a "rant" I posted in the owners thread to give you a little bit of a feel as to how much HP has been helping my situation.
This is just plain unbelievable! I have spent a total of two (2) hours online with live chat "Professional Support" on two separate occasions trying to get HP to tell me if I can upgrade my current Realtek RTL8188CE WiFi card (2.4GHz single band) to any 5GHz dual band card. The conclusion is, I can't!Are you kidding me? I paid over $1000 for a notebook HP won't let me upgrade to any WiFi card I want and yet they can't supply me with one that will connect to a 5GHz dual band network. I'm just about at the end, if I can't find a "modified" BIOS that allows me to install my already purchased Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 (5GHz Dual Band 802.11 a/b/g/n + Bluetooth) I may start looking at other notebooks and HP can have this one back.
I had Camilo over at BIOS-MODS try to remove the "white list" from sp55375.exe (Insyde BIOS F.12) which is the latest BIOS for my notebook. Needless to say his first attempt didn't work. I renamed HP_TOOLS and installed the "modded" BIOS but on reboot it just hung on a blank screen with the Caps Lock key flashing. I re-flashed to stock BIOS using the USB thumb drive recovery method and the notebook booted fine. Any ideas?
I guess what I'm asking is where did you get your BIOS?
Thanks in advance... -
I'm waiting on my dv6t to ship (Feb 7th). Shame that you can't upgrade the WLAN card, does anyone know if HP usually adds WLAN cards to their whitelist over time?
-
I got mine from Camilo also. I dont have the restore or hptools partitions, I have restore dvds instead.
-
Thanks... -
How is the performance of the Realtek 8188CE for you OhioLefty? I am noticing it is very slow compared to my usb wireless adapter (3-4x slower). Are you experiencing slow speeds with it?
-
I just ran a test connected to my router at "G" (54Mb/s) speed and this is what I got below. I have 6Mb/s DSL so I'm doing pretty good considering the overhead associated with DSL.
Run the same TEST I did if you want to compare. (click on "Begin Test")
Good luck... -

I have dv6-6190us, with crappy broadcom 4313 wifi card. tired intel n6230 which i purchased on ebay - and got a black screen on boot. i guess this is the bios "whitelist" problem. from reading ths thread - it sounds like there are alternation bios files somewhere where the whitelist information is stripped. The intel card works great on a dell inspiron 15r computer i have - with no glitches. i believe the bios i have installed is on the DV6 is F.1B. my quesitons are as follows (i have never installed a non OEM bios - so i am somewhat relucatant, and unsure how to do this):
- can someone point me to the alternative bios files - and confirm if removing the whitelist on this computer will work?
- it sounds like the potential to brick the computer is low with this bios change - and the computer can be restored to prior bios if there are problems. (can someone confirm this - and how).
- i unserstand that there is now a HP 2 channel card availabe that may be on the whitelist (ralink hp part number 630813-001). Will this work on my computer? does anyone konw how it compares to the intel card (was wanting also the widi feature - which i guess i would be giving up.
Thanks in advance for any guidance you can provide. -
I've been reading so much about these WiFi cards that I'm starting to go a little nuts.
I have an HP dv6-6180us which has the Intel 1030 WiFi card with the integrated bluetooth.
Based on what I've read, it seems like the 630813-001 RT3592 card should work in my system too and not be blocked by the BIOS.
My question is, what would I do about bluetooth in that case?
It doesnt appear that the RT3592 has integrated bluetooth, and I don't really want to add an external adapter for it. But I'm pretty sure I read something where someone said they changed their dv6 to a RT3592 and their bluetooth worked fine... -
-
ok, I didn't have the whole part number apparently, with the "BC8" at the end.
Thanks! -
Looking for wireless card with dual channel for dv6-6190us. Tried RAlink HP part 630813-001 purchased fom ebay/china for anout $15. Installed easily with drivers on HP website, however it connects to my (Netgear wndr4000) router at low speeds relative to my old broadcom 4313. To connect to 2.4mhz - i need to be in the same room as router, and when i connect in another room to 5mhz i get only a "fair" connection, vs excellent connection from broadcom at 2,4mhz. I also have a dell computer with intel centrino n6230 card - which is awesome at 5mhz connection. the ralink card i have is either deffective, or greatly inferior to others.
-
I've purchased a HP Pavilion dv6-6c98sa, it comes with the Intel Centrino 1030, where can I find out if I can replace it with the 6230? I can pick one up on Amazon for under £20.00.
Many thanks in advance for your help. -
You can stick anything with no BT in there if you flash no-whitelist bios. I am not sure if there is one for 6cxx, so you need to search a bit. Previously , people are saying all 6xxx wont work iirc.

Hi,
Just to finish this of on a positive note. Despite my total lack of technical competence I have just installed the Intel Centrino Advanced N 6235 in my kid's Pavilion DV6 7002AX (DV6z-7000) Trinity AMD Laptop and everything is working.
Rebooted, uninstalled the old Broadcom drivers then installed the recommended N 6235 Drivers. A bit of fiddling with my Fritz.box Router and I am getting 300Mbps speeds.
Thanks to all for their hard and pioneering work on this issue.
It works .... I can hardly believe it ........... after all the "no way's" I got from HP.
Spread the word, as there are lots of frustrated HP Pavilion DV6-7XXX and even DV7-7XXX owners out their thinking and being told that they are stuck with steam driver old WiFi Cards.
Yahoo! -
that means if I buy the Intel Centrino Advanced N 6235 adapter it should work on my laptop too? do I need to change anything in BIOS??
I have a crappy broadcom 4313 which only gives me ~33Mbit/s = 4 MB/s and I have a 100mbit/s connection.
I have the older dv6 series, are there any other wireless adapters that work with my laptop?
Or would it be better to buy a wireless 300mbit/s USB internet adapter? when it comes to ping and speed, are they as good as the built in adapters ? -
Hi,
Strongly suggest you read this thread.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...-7xxx-dv7-7xxx-dual-band-wifi-cards-work.html
I replaced a Broadcom 4313GN with the N 62350 but in a DV6-7002AX (DV6z-7000) an AMD based notebook. You need to make sure you get an original N6235 from a reputable source. Some of those sold on ebay are fakes or reworked engineering samples.
Read the thread.
"What we currently know is that all Intel-based dv6-7XXX and dv7-7XXX notebooks are compatible with a variety of WiFi cards, regardless of the BIOS revision. In fact, I'm not sure if there's even a BIOS whitelist imposed on these Intel-based notebooks. It may be a different story with the AMD-based notebooks though - you will just have to try and see if it works (hopefully without the use of any mods). - Super Moderator"
Doesn't cover other DV6 Series?
Installation Instructions on page (2) of thread.
Post a question on that thread about your specific system ?
Good luck but no guarantees.:hi2: -
thank you reallaopa, that was really helpful!
-
So after reading through this thread, I'm still a little bit unclear.. The 6235 will NOT work without a hacked BIOS, correct? The RT3592BC8, which may have poor performance, is the only card that will work aside from the 1030?
-
thats right, if u have the dv6 with second generation cpu, it wont aacept the 6235 or any other high performance wifi card.
I ended up buying an Asus usb wifi adapter (up to 300mbit) and its working flawlessly, now I get 85mbit/s download and also my ping is better -
