Are you referring to the dv6100 or the dv6-6100 (latest model)?
I dont know anything about the dv6100, but under the left palm rest for the dv6-6100 is nothing mechanical. The only thing there is the part of the motherboard with the ports and the SD card reader. The hard drive is roughly under the trackpad, so maybe that?

hard to tell from here :) but maybe a bearing is going out on a fan? just a WAG. I've had a couple of video card cooler fans that even while new, were noisy. They were replaced under warranty.

yeah its the 6100.. its a good thing.. maybe something just went loose.. maybe its the hard drive.., the thing is, i gave the laptop an easy shake a while ago, and the sound just magically vanished..

Go to HP support website and download service manual for your model, then you can see it yourself :)

I meant the Service and Maintenance guide but it's apparently not listed there. I wonder why :-/
