Wow... that's a great price for a notebook with a Radeon 4650. If I didn't already have a dv4z I'd put that on my short list.

HP should start offering higher resolutions on the dv6 series. WXGA on a 15.6"/16" notebook is unfortunate. Thats the only low point IMO, other than that the rest of the specs look fine.

Eh... should be okay. My ol' ASUS is 1280x900 or something like that and I'm okay with it. Higher frame rate in WoW anyway ;)

My brother in law is looking for a laptop... he needs one for gaming (mostly WoW). That's the best price I've found for the specs so far, but I'm still looking. I was just hoping someone here might have seen / used one.

This notebook has a very health spec list..I am impressed so much for so little. However I agree with miner HP's dv6 15.6" screens really could use with a higher resolution options.

How does this with its 4650 in this stack up against the MSI GT735 (currently 700 after rebate) with the 3850. I have heard that the 4650 is on par with the 3850.. but runs cooler.

I'm not sure... I thought the 4650 was a step up from the 3850, but... never be fooled by the numbers ;) I'm going to look into that myself.

I am worried about the processor. HP's thermal management records are not encouraging.

Yeah something tells me to wait until AMD launches 45nm notebook parts.

Hopefully HP will start offering a 1600x900 resolution display as an option! Dell offers an upgraded LED with this resolution on the 15.6" Studio 1555, so it could catch on with HP and others soon...I hope!

Look that hd4650 has ddr2 memory. I don't know it is a typo, but usually hd4650 ships with ddr3 memory that is 5%-10% faster than ddr2 with 3d gaming.
About it's specification, it has 320 Shader processors (exactly as hd3850), but has a 128 bit memory interface (3850 has a 256bit memory interface). Anyway it should be not so much slower than 3850. For comparison, hd4650 is much faster than nvidia 9600M GT that was the best GPU available for dv5 series.

BTW nice things are 64 bit windows vista (with the option to upgrade to 7 as soon as possible) and the general balancement.

Look that hp dv5 and maybe dv6 share the same (not so very good) heat dissipation system. I don't really know if hp redesigned it for dv6 (since the hd4650 has 35W TDP), but on dv5 it is someway painful.

Hmm, but I don't see where it says that the 4650 has DDR2..

i just got this laptop today from newegg through UPS and it's pretty nice. those who were concerned about the heat are indeed correct.... this laptop runs pretty hot when the CPU is pegged at 100% (running windows update, typing on this forum, and youtube HD on another tab). ill answer any questions you guys have, $800 for a laptop with a 4650 is amazing. that ridiculous deal with the dv6-1253cl with 500gb HDD, P7550, and blu ray for $830 at was unbelievable but unfortunately gone.

    ambient temps here around 28/29C
    CPU idle: 66C
    CPU load (GTA IV): 93C
    GPU load (GTA IV): 74C
gpu is alright but this 65nm cpu is really bad.

edit: with my vantec lapcool 4 the cpu load goes down to 85C

i have two of these...i really take care of them, i keep them on a cooling pad but if i watch hd videos or playing some games for just 10 minutes it gets really hot (90 degrees), also the battery is dead on a machine...i understand that the video card is powerful but they made a cheap design of the vents, it blows the hot air in the direction of the vents...never will by an hp again.. . i have a friend that can keep his Acer notebook on a pillow and playing games and the machine runs fine...
