yeh so i bought this around 1.5 years ago, what can i say when i first used it excellent through out everything i could think of. but then i warranty expired. ok no probs right, hell no..

in january i discovered the problem that i froze alot, re installed windows twice through recovery then, disc, then recovery disc ordered from hp contractors.

then recently my laptop gave up on me to many frequent freezes during reinstallation of windows (i thought it was the OS). then definately it was hardware problem but what?

i gave it to my friend to look at and it came out to be motherboard failure in the dv6 series which put me off. no warranty, called hp them demanded £316.26. im not going to pay that much because its way to much invest a bit more and i can buy a new laptop.

then i had couple of options parts: company quote £101.95, friend suggested seperate parts such as key board, lcd screen, charger, box etc around £200.

second option was to fix it using youtube video resoldering balls that are on the nvidia chip??? dont know if they work, or the method of wrapping it in a blanket to heat it so much that it resolders it together.

give it to a company to fix £135 with 3 months warranty. not sure if they replace the mother board or fix my one. (friend said not worth while).

i really likes hp products never let me down until now, i looked at other peoples been through and then i thought is it really like this ??? i mean are hp slacking, deep down i can't trust them anymore... if you know what i mean,

HP dv6 is a really good line of laptops and providing you havent run it on ur legs or a carpet/bed that shouldn't happen.
it's unlikely to be your GPU failing as there not on like console GPU's the solder balls are much less likely to crack from heat and most of them are held inplace with a template like a PC.
on the otherhand motherboards are end game if a capacator goes it's curtains and its not worth the money sending it to be refurbed when your not even getting a new motherboard from them

HDD's are fetching good money at the moment
id' sell the keyboard , hdd , lcd screen seperate then the rest
you may only get £200 back but that'll get you going

i don't know what you do so i cant say what you need a laptop for but if its for home use id deffinately go for a PC alot more bang for your buck upgrade opportunitys and no overheating issues etc
