    Hello everyone,
so I've had my dv6-7xxx for about 5 months now. I'm a bit concerned because I think the temperatures have gone up since I first got it. Initially, I believe my idle temps average around 39C to low 40Cs; currently, it's about 44C-48C and can even jump to around 50C to low 50Cs. When I mean idle, I am doing nothing but using the internet.

I'm unsure of any reasons behind it - I've been updating drivers on an occasional basis, use a cooling pad (Cooler Master U3) when gaming (which has only been about two 4-hour sessions a week), and always make sure the vent isn't obstructed.

Under load is different for each game I play. I want to say I've noticed a 5C increase in the average load temps across all the games I play. Something very unusual just happened awhile ago as well; I was playing League of Legends and the left palmrest and vent seemed hotter than usual. When I checked with HWInfo, I was right that for some reason the temps were noticeably higher than before but no idea why. I've also noticed that sometimes the process nvtray.exe would use a lot of memory even if I'm not playing a game but don't know if that affects anything.

I also want to be able to know if there's a way to know if my dedicated or integrated GPU is being used - for either knowing if a game is using the right GPU to optimize performance or to ensure playing a youtube video isn't using the dedicated GPU to reduce load.

Is this something I should be concerned about or are these temps normal? I wouldn't be surprised if someone told me don't worry about the idle temps, but I'm still curious about load temps. Thanks for any replies.

    Long time, ttp.

Perhaps your factory TIM is baking in already, hence the increase in temps. You might want to look into swapping it out for a better one.

Also, pretty sure NVIDIA has that little tray icon that can tell you if a game/program is using the NVIDIA GPU. You can probably set it using the NVIDIA CP.

Another thing, an HP dv7-72xx user had his fan/heatsink assembly replaced by HP with another, cannot-be-researched-as-of-yet part that kinda dropped his temps significantly. Seeing as the ENVY dv7-7200 is just a rebranded Pavilion dv7-7xxx, and that the dv7-7xxx shares the same fan assy as the dv6-7xxx, maybe you could call up HP and have them look into the issue for you. As of yet, I can't find the spare part number anywhere.

For your reference, the part number is 684125-001.
