im going on travel with work and im looking for a decent laptop, but nothing to costly,

    my budget 1k

i found the dv6000 3200 for 1k.. my only worry is, will the x200 run games like madden 06 and mvp 06, games of that nature, fine?? im not looking to play CS, mostly just get on the internet and play time consuming games, since i will be trapped in a hotel all night

    thanks for your opinions

-edit- im sticking with athlon, preferrably 64 bit, so if theres any other suggestions that have athlon/64 bit processors, im open to that also

PLease note that it is quite heavy. I have one with 12-cell battery and it weights A LOT :-(

thats what ill prolly get too, but the furthest its going is... to the car, and to the hotel room, i dont have to lug it around all day, just for something to do when i get off work

how long does your 12 cell usually last? and what games can you play with your x200? are you happy with what you spent on it for what you got?

    thanks, appreciate it

Your going to be hard pressed to be with AMD 64, keep your budget, and get a quality machine with anything other than the zv6000 (or R4000 in Compaq). As far as games, other threads have mainly had compaints about Doom 3 and I think Battlefied 2, basically games that are as intensive as these. Otherwise, most other games seem to be working okay, even if the detail levels have to be turned down some. Do some more research here, and check out zv6000forums.com for more info. Good luck!

Well, that's a slightly biased attitude, and you're forgetting that when it comes to gaming, the processor is a quadrenary concern. Graphics card, then RAM, then hard drive speed, THEN processor.

Still, in your budget, you probably can't do a whole lot better. Normally I'd suggest lookign at an Inspiron 6000D with coupons, since you'll get less weight, better battery life, and faster graphics card (x300), but I'm guessing you aren't going to go for that.

If you need to shave off a bit of weight without losing too much in performance, try the HP L2000/Compaq V2000z...the GPU is the same as the weaker option on the zv6000, and the whole thing is a lot lighter and cooler with much better battery life.

Theres also a MSI-1029 with the AMD MT chips and an X700.

    http://www.xmeld.com/html/msi1029.html

I dont know much about MSI systems but the stats look nice.

I am also a fan of the L2000/V2000z's.

well after looking around it looks like i might have to try a pentium afterall..

    2 options right now

    x6000

    Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 530 w/HT Technology, 3.0GHz
    17 inch brightview
    512MB DDR2 SDRAM, 533MHz (1x512MB)
    60 gig 4200 ( cant get higher speeds )
    dvd drive
    256 x600
    12 cell battery

    price = 1250

    zd8000

Operating System Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Home Edition with SP2 edit
    Processor Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 520 w/HT Technology, 2.8GHz
    Display 17.0" WXGA+ BrightView Wide Viewing (1440x900)
    Memory 1.0GB DDR2 SDRAM, 533MHz (2x512MB)
Hard Drive 80 GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive
Primary CD/DVD Drive DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive
    Graphics Card 256MB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) X600
Networking Integrated 56K Modem + 10/100 Ethernet LAN
Primary Battery 12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery

    price = 1300

now, the hp comes with more memory, better HD, but im taking a small hit on processor... are these pentium 4's worth it? what would benchmark the best...

my budget now = 1300 MAX

    x600 sounds nice

ok...u should get a dell 6000...u could get it for much better specs...for much less than $1250...and all their 4200 RPM hard drives were upgraded to 5400 RPM hard drives after may of this year...so that is a plus...and a 1.73 GHz Pentium M is about equal to...if not better...than a 3.0 GHz Pentium 4!!!!..or if u want a 17" screen with a 256 MB nVidia Geforce 6800 Go graphics card...then get the dell 9300..the 40% off coupon can help u get such great specs for less than $1250..and if it is cheaper with the 40% off coupon..then get the ram from dell when u order it...and if not...get the ram and add it yourself b/c it could be very cheap compared to what u mite be paying for with your laptop :D ...hope that helps :p

yea, it looks like ill prolly go with the 9300...

    someone else told me this

"all for $1276 after a 40% off deal.

After you add the computer to the cart just apply this coupon code:
    71GRJ4ZVZMDWMJ

I think it is a sweet deal! The pentium M 740 only consumes 27 watts as oppossed to 150+ watts from those pentium 4's! It will be super cool.
Plus you get the 256MB Nvidia 6800 card."
