Hi, my dv6000 USB port next to my adapter input is damaged. How difficult would it be for me to obtain a new port and attach it to the motherboard? How much time, money, etc., would it take? I don't know if I want to pay someone else to do it. I could use the experience and, of course, whatever savings I might enjoy. I know having it done doesn't cost THAT much, but I'm not really into paying about $70-$75 on this, my backup notebook, at this stage.

The usb ports are attached to the motherboard itself. You're better off getting a usb hub and connecting up to 4 devices on one port.

I know they are. That's why I wonder how hard it would be for me to do it myself. I see the repair shops aren't exactly charging an arm and a leg. It's only expensive insofar as the laptop itself is my outdated backup.

It's not too hard to do as long as you have the right tools. It's really a simple de-solder then solder new one onto the board, job. You'll need a soldering iron with a thing tip, solder, and a solder "sucker." You can probably get away with not having the de-solderer. You'll just have to pry up each point of contact of the old USB connector as you heat each solder point.
