i received an HP Pavilion dv6000 for my birthday recently. it is nice, however i am unhappy with the processor performance... is there any possible way i can upgrade my cpu to something that would smoothly run games such as CS:S or Bioshock? This is my current cpu:

    AMD Turion(tm) 64X2 Mobile Technology TL-50 1.60 GHz

    help would be much appreciated

What graphics card do you have?? Upgrading the cpu wont affect the performance in games too much. Its the graphics card which matters most and unfortunately thise cannot be upgraded.

I totally disagree. While it's important to have a nice video card / chipset, cpu matters alot. As for which cpu, make sure you pick one that comes with your laptop. You'll need to do some research. Once you find one that works, actually changing it isn't hard. I don't know anything about the recent amd mobile cpus though. Good luck!

after a certain cpu speed, there is no more improvement from upgrading the cpu

If he has the Geforce Go 6150 or ny integrated/low end dedicated GPU, it doesnt matter what cpu he has... Bioshock or CS:S will still run poorly.
