my mom has a HP Pavillion dv6000 made for being mobile and having some gaming capability anyway she's had it for year and half well long story short its alwas been kinda slow and I ran some tests on it because I'm thinking about buying it from her and the processor AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-58 @ 1.90GHz is like locked at 803.9MHz won't go past it I ran OCCT for an hour and it never went over 803.9MHz and never went under 803.7Mhz any idea what the problem could be?. I know she didn't do anything to it, all she does is go on Facebook.com and play FarmTown >_>
The Specs are:
Processor: AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-58 @ 1.90GHz
Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce 8400M GS
RAM: 2GB Major Brand Memory
thats all I know about it :/
CPU-Z

EDIT: Btw how good is that graphics card? I've never heard of it before -_-

I don't mean to be a buzz kill but the nvidia 8400 is one of the defective onces people are having a lot of problems with. just look around these forums and you will see posts about people having their GPUs die. Another thing you might want to check about whats going on here is the heat. If that PC is getting too hot it will underclock itself (Cool and Quiet, AMD's version of Speed Step) and that could be what you are seeing here. Other than that update to the latest HP BIOS.

First, with CPUZ open press F9 to see if changing the algorithm has any impact to the core speed reading. This works with some chipsets and others it does not. If that doesn't work and you're running Windows XP, try reinstalling the AMD driver from HP here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...n&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&os=228&product=1842155 or the applicable one from AMD here: http://support.amd.com/us/psearch/P...Download+Processor&ostype=&keywords=&items=20
As for the Nvidia 8400m.... + 1 for bob the nailer's comment. It's very proned to failure. -

Check your Power Options in Control Panel. If it's set to Minimum it would behave as you describe. Get HWMonitor and check your temps.

Yes, set power profile to Balanced and it'll switch. And that's Vista running there.
As for the 8400M, mine's still going. The trick is to not allow the laptop to get cold. It's the thermal shock of powering up from a low temperature that cracks the solder. Since the weather's gotten cold, i just keep it running at all times and it's fine. Oh and remove the battery when running on AC for extended periods, you'll break it otherwise. -
Hmmm .. good suggestion guys about the power option selection but even in power saving mode I didnt know it would lock down the processor to its lowest power state. I just checked the DV4t we have (Intel) and set it to power saving. After reboot, when I check CPUZ it still shows it switching from its lowest power state (768MHz) to its moderate state (1596MHz) when needed. I thought the newer AMD Turions worked similarly?
Yes....No..... ?? Just trying to learn something here. It's been awhile since I tinkered with a Turion.
