I got a dv6426us a while back for a pretty good deal and all around I cant complain about it but now I am looking at upgrading the 1 gb of ram to 4, but hp says it can only support 2 gb. I found somewhere people discussing a bios upgrade for it that would allow 4 gb of ram, but now I cant find the thread. does anyone know anything about this or is it wise to just buy and jam 2x2048mb sticks in there and pray it works?

You will find a number of people who say 4 GB works just fine for them. I think the people who are having problems are using mis-matched RAM modules. No guarantees, but 4 GB is now so cheap that you should go for that. 32 bit OS will only see a little over 3 GB due to the software but it doesn't pay to buy a 2 GB stick and a 1 GB stick. Besides, you want to buy two exact same sticks of RAM to 1) avoid incompatibility issues and 2) to keep the dual channel memory function running. Check out the deals on RAM at NewEgg.com, ZipZoomFly.com, etc. I have seen some deals on 4GB for less than $80.

The almighty google turned up little for my specific model, but I'll remain vigilant. I intend on buying two identical high end ram modules for it and all, but is there any better guarantees on putting them in, or has anyone actually done this with positive results?
Also, is vista home premium a 32 or 64 bit os, and does anyone this ultimate is worth the upgrade?
