Hello. I come with a small problem.

The speakers on my laptop are not working. The weird thing is the sound works when I plug in my headphones in either headphone jack (so that's good news, I suppose). But when I unplug the headphones, no sound.

Here's the thing; you know those media buttons that make that little beep whenever you touch any of them? Well, they work fine (volume up and down, mute, DVD and QuickPlay), but no beep sound from them either!

All this happened a couple days ago. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

Open the control panel and double click on sound. You should have a green check mark next to your default sound configuration.

If speakers and dual headphones is not the default configuration do this. Click on speakers and dual headphones once to highlight it. Click on the set default button below. Click on the Apply button. Click on the OK button. Reboot the computer and the speakers and dual headphones should work together.

I'm using Windows XP. I went to Sound and Audio Devices, Clicked Advanced under Speaker Settings, and made sure Laptop Stereo Speakers was chosen.

I also looked at the setup (F10 at startup), and saw that the option for the laptop to make that beep sound when you press the media buttons was enabled, but when I press them, they still do not make a sound.

It's a different problem. My power button is lit, but still no sound.

Y'know, it's funny. I tried switching the cables and got some good and bad news.

The good news is that the speakers now work!

The bad news (kinda) is the media button lights are out and none of them work. So maybe the problem was with the cable? If so, do I need another?
