Looking at getting a new dv6000t but I am wondering how much of a performance increase will I see with the Nvidia 7400 vs. the Intel 950? For example, what are the Vista Performance numbers on the two options?

Also, if I get the 7400, do you lose the 5-in-1 Media Reader?

    Thanks!

What, are you kidding? The 7400 is by far dominant vs. Intel's GMA. It does consume more battery but Vista would look so good on it :) The GMA doesn't run aero on vista. Stuff like switching from window to window and vista eye candy. It might run some aspects but not as good. Not sure about the card reader, but I know a guy that bought an hp dv2000 with geforce 7200, it still had the memory reader,

I have the Go7400 on my HP Pavilion dv8000t, and it has the Media Card Reader.

Hmm? I heard that people did get to run Aero with the intel GMA? i dont see why you have to sacrifice the card reader for a dedicated graphics card? Perhaps thats cuz when you saw the specs they neglected to mention it on the 7400 machine but it was there on the GMA machine? AFAIK it should come with a media reader, the two are unrelated whatsoever.

Two main advantages of the 7400 is that #1 it is a much better graphics processor and will allow you to play recent games as well as the fact that it has hardware support for HD. #2 being dedicated it will have its own RAM and wont need to share RAM with the system unlike the GMA which reserves system RAM to operate. Therefore getting the 7400 means more RAM available. In the end its a win-win situation

3.0 versus 3.4 yes the 950 runs vista flawlessly if you have the memory to support it (gig minimum )
if you do not play games the difference is negligable and the battery life is totally different my 1405 with 9 cell and gma got 8 hours and now my 1210 with the 7400 gets 4 to 5 that is the diffweance in battery as far as gaming you basically can't on the gma and the 7400 does pretty good so you have to decide what you are going to do with it before you buy, IMHO get the 7400 jusy in case you decide to game

Sounds like the 7400 wins hands down then. I'm not too concerned about battery life as I'll mostly be using it plugged in and occasionally in other parts of the house.

The reason I asked about the media reader is because when you click the 'help me decide' link while customizing it mentions the Media Reader under the 950, but not under the 7400.

I just wish they had an off-the-shelf version that had the 7400 in it so I don't have to wait for HP to build it. :)

They do - you can pick it up at Costco (dv6174cl, with 7400 and media reader)

Through Saturday, at least while supplies last, the dv6275us is available from CompUSA for $1299.99, a $200 savings ($150 instant savings and $50 MIR): http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=343931&pfp=%28SESSION%29. Not bad for Intel Core 2 Duo T5600 (1.83GHz), 2GB 667MHz DDR2 667 ram, 160GB 5400 RPM HDD, 15.4" WXGA, DVD SuperMulti Drive, nVidia Go7400, plus an HP Express Card Hybrid ATSC/NTSC TV Tuner with Remote and Receiver. I just ordered one.

    Hope you the best.

OK, so they do have ones with the 7400.

Here's the config I'm looking at right now:

    Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo T7200 (2.0GHz/4MB L2Cache)
    15.4" WXGA BrightView Widescreen (1280x800)
    256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7400
    HP Imprint Finish + Microphone
    2048MB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    120GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
    LightScribe Super Multi 8X DVD+/-RW w/Double Layer
    802.11b/g WLAN

for about $50 cheaper than the Compusa one (I get a discount on HP from work). Thoughts?

in my personal opinion i would no buy another hp after fighting their tech support on the famous keyboard issue for 3 different unfixed returns but if the notebook fits your needs and you feel it is a good deal i say go for it.
it does have very good specs other than the resolution (i would expect higher)
because my 12.1 does that! other than that it seems very nice

I don't see how you can go wrong, especially if you can get it for $1250 or so. I would jump on it.
