    should I order a third dv6000t???

    I ordered one, but found a small problem and also a little weird OS problem. So I decide to return it, and was told that I must reorder another one(replacement does not apply to the customized machine). The thing in the old machine I like most is the screen, AUO, but very bright. I feel bat to return it but have to.

    So I have to order a new one. In the new machine, there is no problem existing in the old machine. But the frustrating thing is that the Hard disk and DVD is not the same brand. Both a little worse than the old one...What make me feel bad most is the screen. The new machine's screen is also AUO, but when I put them together, it is apparant that the new one's screen is a little dark than the old one when we open the notepad file. In seeing the colorful picture, I cannot tell the difference...

    what should I do??? continue to return the new one, and get another???

    I am so tired of tranfering data and programs again and again from one to another...

    Hi all,

    Quick question... Is anyone else experiencing problems with their keyboards? Specifically: on my dv6000t I often find that when I try to type an uppercase letter using the shift key, it comes out lowercase. I'm having to go back and fix a lot of these errors when I'm typing. It's strange and annoying. I'm aware that HP has some keyboard problems on other models, but was wondering if it's a known issue with this model.

    Thanks! -Craig

    Howdy Blue - I think that's going to be your only option - unless there's a line-out (My 6000t is packed up for shipping otherwise I'd take a closer look for ya). The trick to getting amplified speakers to sound decent using a headphone output is to make sure you're not under- or over-driving the output. You just have to play around to find the sweet spot. I had my 6000t plugged into some Creative Labs amplified speakers and it sounded pretty good.

    Are you speaking from experience with past use of headphone outputs, or do you have a 6000t now?

    Hey Chapa - I deleted the screen shots after printing them..sorry bud. In hindsight I should have posted them here for folks to reference.

    You'll (or you're friend who's purchasing) will know immediately if it's got the problem I had. There is very visible streaking in light colors, especially greys.

    I feel for anyone who has to deal with HP support. But from what I can tell, I'm in for the same frustrations with Dell should I ever need to contact them.

    In my opinion the headphone doesn't provide the same impedance match that line-outs would provide. I'm not familiar with your speakers, but normally the PC uses amplified speakers and headphones are normally passive, so there will be a mis-match. Not sure what that all means, but when you experiment with them you'll hear what they sound like.

    I only have experience with using an MP3 player and using the headphone output to the line-in of an amplifier, and the level of output and the sound is not that great. I really have to crank-up the volume of the amp to get a decent output from the system's speakers.

    To Summiter: Yeah I do currently have the dv6000t- just got it a week ago and was dissapointed that it only had an expresscard (apparently this is the new standard). I tired out my logitech 2.1 external speakers using one of the headphone jacks and it really doesn't sound good compared to old laptop with the audigy 2 zs sound card.

    To wrahn: Yeah I don't know what much of what you said means either but you're right I do have to crank the volume up higher in order to get the similar volume of sound as before.

    On a side note, I found that there are some usb sound cards that I might try. Specifically, the sound blaster audigy 2 NX. Not sure if it's worth the money and I heard usb takes up ram and processor power which will be annoying when multitasking or gaming.

    Anyway, thanks for the help. If by chance anyone has experience with usb sound cards let me know.

    I recently purchased one of these with the 256 mb video card option. What I didn't realize when I ordered it was that the memory for the video card is SHARED!

    The way it's presented on the website when you're ordering it does not lead you to that conclusion. They put it next to "integrated" video then present the 7400 without that word!

    I noticed it last night when I was running a program and it said I only had 128mb of video memory. Then I looked at the bios and sure enough it shares up to 256 of memory!

    I called HP and after about 30 minutes they pointed me to the "more info" tab on the order screen and on the very bottom in tiny print it does spell that out. My fault? I don't know, I don't think I should have had to click on every single link.

    I'm disappointed in them for leading me down the garden path like that. The PC performs alright. I might keep it if I can't find anything with a reasonably priced video option.

    So if you're thinking of buying one, don't expect what I did!

    Hi, new member here, i've been wanting a dv6000t for a while, but two things are keeping me from buying it,

    1) I manily play CS:S and WoW and wondering how many fps do you people get with the 7400 in it?

    2) how does the S-video look on the TV, been wanting to use this as a portible DVD player and ext for people wanting to see me play games!

    This looks good, but the 7400 is the only thing that is making me go to the dv9000t with the 7600, but i don't want a 17", again a notebook is meant to be portible and a 17" would defeat that purpose, just want good fps and not having regrets, thanks!!!

    Hello, I just ordered my DV6000t from Cost co, they offer a 6 month return on it if I don't like it or it breaks. I think thats an awesome deal considering its about the same price from HP. I only ordered 512 mb of ram because I plan to upgrade to 2 GB like a week after I get the laptop. I figured, for some extra cash I could have the 2 gb and the extra 512 mb for testing and stuff. heres the specs:

    * Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo processor T7200 (2.0 GHz)
    * 512MB DDR2 SDRAM (2x256MB)
    * 160 GB 5400 RPM SATA Hard Drive
    * FREE Upgrade: 8X DVD+/-R/RW w/Double Layer Support
    * 256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7400
    * Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network w/Bluetooth
    * FREE Upgrade to 15.4" WXGA BrightView Widescreen!!
    * Genuine Windows XP Professional
    * Microsoft(R) Works/Money
    * 12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
    * HP IMPRINT Finish + Microphone + Webcam
    * No TV Tuner w/remote control

    I hope this laptop will run Grand theft auto: san andreas and Counter strike 1.6 and battlefield2, as these are pretty much the only games i usually play, and I don't play them very often so I hope the graphics look decent. Later.

    Also, what ram have people upgraded to? I want 2 gb of ram, preferably from newegg.

    You do understand that, of that 256 MB of video memory, only HALF of it is shared, right?

    In other words, there is 128 MB of dedicated memory on the video card and, as such, the GeForce does not fall into the same category as an "intergrated memory" graphics solution.

    The card dumps whatever it cannot handle onto the extra 128 MB in RAM, and if your CPU is really fast (mine is the 2.0 Ghz,) you are rarely going to see any glitches.

    I have only played Civ IV thus far, but it plays beautifully (and this is with the graphics settings maxxed out.)

    Point being, unless you're planning some super-intensive graphics usage of some type, the GeForce 7400 is fine.

    I payed $1,480 shipped. From HP would of been $50 cheaper, but that was even with the student discount.

    I'm not an expert, in fact I just ordered the hp myself. However, the experts would advise you to get the 2GB now rather than after you buy the laptop. First, it's cheaper than installing as an upgrade, and second, you might void your warranty if you DIY.

    I have this buzzing sound that has been talked about previously. I downloaded the CPU Clock Utility and did the tweak that was mentioned earlier, but I still get a buzzing sound when idle. The laptop is 2 weeks old. Should I return it? I mean I'm satisfied with everything else.

    I've decided to go with the HP dv6000t. Now, my only question is when to make this purchase. I can wait on buying until February, once Vista comes out, but I'm trying to decide whether there's any benefit to that. Here's the specs of the system that I customized:

    Operating System FREE Upgrade to Genuine Windows XP Media Center!!
    Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo processor T7200 (2.0 GHz)
    Display FREE Upgrade to 15.4" WXGA BrightView Widescreen!
    Graphics Card 256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7400
    Personalization HP IMPRINT Finish + Microphone
    Memory 2.0GB DDR2 SDRAM (2x1024MB)
    Hard Drive 120 GB 5400 RPM SATA Hard Drive
    Primary CD/DVD Drive FREE Upgrade: 8X DVD+/-R/RW w/Double Layer Networking Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection
    TV & Entertainment Experience HP ExpressCard Analog TV Tuner w/remote
    Primary Battery 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
    Productivity Software Microsoft(R) Works/Money

    This is all comes to $1503. This also includes a free upgrade to Vista Home Premium. I think that's pretty good price which is why I'm tempted to make the purchase soon. I've heard that prices may go up once Vista is realeased. Any idea?

    The main reason to wait for me, would be either (1) a new (and improved)CPU release or (2) a better graphics card. If either of these two things happen, I think that would justify a slightly higher price and thus, a reason to wait until February. However, if I'm going to pay $100-$200 more in February just to have Vista pre-installed on the hard drive, I don't think it's worth it. Any thoughts?

    I really appreciate it!

    I ordered a custom dv6000t and at the time I ordered I asked for the "QDS" display. The request was included in the 'Notes" section of my order. No promise was made concerning whether I would get what I wanted. Others on this forum have done the same thing, but I'n not sure what happened. When I receive mine, I'll post back the results of my request.

    My first CTO, two separate Indian managers did everything but swear a blood oath my requested LCD would be the LCD I received. Didn't happen. Since then sources weell up the food chain in both HP support and HP sales told me they've no capacity to specify a particular component brand in DV2000/6000/9000 machines. I wish you luck.

    I want to get my own ram for 2 reasons. I get to pick out my own brand, and also I like to have a spare incase somthing goees wrong with the laptop, and I have to send it back. And no, opening up the memory slot on the bottom and changing memory does not void your warranty.

    That's weird - it worked on my machine. Just to check...do you have it set up so that the application runs at startup? You can set it up this way, and have it minimized at startup too.

    This probably isn't the issue, since you would be able to tell right away if it fixes the noise or not. But if it seems to fix the noise, but then the noise is back when you restart, you could try having the program run automatically at startup.

    I also thought the noise was rather annoying, and was glad that the CPU Clock Utility fixed the problem.

    Also - one way to check if the utility is doing what you want it to do is by checking on CPU activity in the Task Manager.

    Good luck!

    Thats probably why you still get the buzzing, but if that still doesn't work, stick any kind of USB prong into the front left USB port/s and it will make it stop or atleast a lot quieter :)

    yeah, thanks gummiworm and airman, I'm an idiot. I thought the utility would someone permanently tweak a setting in the computer and then I could not run it. Guess I'll be running it all the time now- it does in fact work, thanks again.

    Another question- I used to have a dell which I used to reformat and do a clean install and it was very easy. I've heard doing this with hp is harder becuase of some SATA driver issues. I have a copy of xp pro from my school and would like to reformat. Any link to guides on how to do this on this laptop?

    I have a Yuan Expresscard HDTV Tuner it's sold by HP. I was iffy at first when the rep said it was HDTV capable but sure enough it actually is. As far as an antenna you can pick any kind up as this tuner comes with a connector so you just plug in a regular cable line. Yes it also comes with a pretty good MCE remote control.

    First Impression of SEC Display

    When viewing in a brighly lit room, the angle of view has to be almost straight on in order to use the computer. A slight change in head position, right or left up or down washes out the screen. I changed the color from 32 to 16 bit without any noticeable change. I have no laptop experience and only a desltop LCD computer display and a 14 inch LCD TV display to compare with my SEC, and they don't have the same problem.

    Any input for the LG or QDS?

    Alright guys, I'm new here haha. I've been following the board for a while, but just signed up today. Got my new 6000t in the mail this afternoon and I'm so stoked about it. I got it mostly for multitasking between Autodesk, Photoshop, Illustrator and a few other 3D modeling programs. Basically I got Core2duo 1.83, 2GB of RAM, 80g hard drive and NVidia 7400. So far I'm really happy with it. Seems to run everything fine, I don't have any of the display issues any one has talked about, and no buzzing noise. My only question is what's the best way to get rid of all these junk programs that are preinstalled? Just go through the add/remove software function? I'm not a computer genius, but I know that I'll never use 99% of this stuff, and it's just taking up space. Anyways thanks, and I'm glad to be a part of the club now.

    Could you please check which manufacture's display you have installed in your laptop? In case you don't know the procedure, which I didn't, I included a post from PersianKing with full instructions. "LG" and "QDS" are reported to be the best.

    Thanks,
    Wes

    wow... I am new here as well. As for those junk softwares, why not just try a TYPICAL hp reinstallation for your OS? The guide can be found in the sticky thread :)
    btw, my customized dv6000t will not be shipped from Shanghai until 11/16, while the notebook case and the deskjet have arrived for 2days. sigh...

    Hey Airman

    On HPs site they claim the HDTV card is only for XP MCE. Did you have a hard time setting it up in XP. Are you using it to record live TV?

    Thanks,

    Pat

    Update To My First Impressions Of The SEC Display

    I used ASTRA32 to determine the systems makeup of my laptop and was surprised to learn that the Monitor Vendor is Seiko Epson with Model # listed as Unknown SEC 3345 and farther down the list Monitor ID is SEC 3345 and also the Internal Vedor is listed as SAMSUNGLTN154X3-LOI Now the BIG surprise, the Monitor Manfacture date is January 2004.

    The System Name is HP dv6000(EY798A#ABA) and the Board Model is Quanta.

    Not sure what all this means, except I just bought a laptop with an almost three year display.

    I have the LG display and it seems to be fine at all angles except really wide ones. The color is good (I don't have the glossy screen) and fairly sharp. wrahn, if it's that bad that slight angles wash it out then you should probably return it.

    Question. I have the system recovery dvds from hp so is there any need to burn my own using the utility or even the partition that stores this stuff for that matter?

    Hey Pat, I do record live TV all the time and such but I'm running MCE 2005 so I wouldn't know about XP Pro or home. I asked the Rep if it would also work on those OS's and he said yes but I haven't tried thus far.

    As far as the displays go I have an LPL or (LG Phillips) screen and it's not horribly bright but it has an amazing picture quality and the widest viewing angle that iv'e seen in a notebook. The only time that the picture looks washed out is if I'm standing above the screen and looking down from the top, but I would never watch a DVD or TV this way so it really doesn't matter at all. Oh and it's a BrightView, hope that helps someone.

    Thanks for the input on the type of display, as well as, all the input you provide. I couldn't believe that my display has a manufacture date of Jan 2004. It's almost three years old. They must have alot of them to unload.

    While using mu laptop, I also noticed that when I'm trying to view a store bought DVD, the player won't accept that I have a DVD installed. I can play DVDs I've burned using Pinnacle Studio 10, but not store bought DVDs that play on my stand-alone player and my desktop computer. What's that all about?

    Thanks again, and yes you get points.

    Whatever you do, if you’re planning to use Vista, besides sticking to at least Core 2 Duo make sure to get a separate video card (which you’re already doing). Running Vista on an integrated memory will give you graphics issues. As far as getting a faster CPU, for not being much of a difference between 1.6 GHz and 2.0 GHz, paying 150 + bucks would not justify the upgrade. At least for me.

    What is the return policy for the custom-ordered laptops from HP Home? If there is one, besides paying for shipping, are there any re-stocking/other fees? I'm planning on getting either dv6000t or dv2000t (still trying to decide between more screen space or lighter weight), but judging by so many responses I wouldn't want to get stuck with a Sumsung-made screen. Thanx!

    yep, dv2000t has lighter weight and cute look; however, with the option of a 256MB graphics card dv6000t beats dv2000t without any doubt :) As far as I know, Go7400 with 256MB mem is not available on dv2000t, is it?

    I got the T7200 in my dv6000 CTO and noticed the same high pitched hum. The rmclock program fixes it for me too, but I noticed something when I ran the program the other day. My processor is the conroe and not the merom that was developed for the notebooks. I called hp and asked about it and they said that they only ship conroe cpus. I heard that a lot of big manufacturere might be shipping conroes because they were cheaper.

    I thought that sucks because the conroe is not as power efficient and runs warmer so my fans are always on, but I like the notebook so I'll live with it. Then I look at this thread and Cheese posted a screenshot earlier and it shows he's running the merom in his. Anybody else running the merom out there?

    You can;'t upgrade the processor, Memory.

    I tell you the HP, Acer and others are ****ing blood suckers.
    They only sell good configuration models outside INDIA.
    if HP or any member of HP is listening to this thread that i would openly say on your face that you are bloody Indians. :(

    Does anyone realize whats the use of XP Media Center Edition without tv tuner card.??

    - JIGS

    As per me the correct configuration of a laptop in 2007 should be as below.

    OS: Vista.
    Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHZ, or Greater
    15.4" Widescreen(for developers and application users) , (14.1 for CEO and Executives)
    Nvidia Geforce Go 7400 or ATI Redion
    Inbuilt Mic, Webcam, Speakers.
    2GB DDR2 SDRAM, 120GB SATA HDD 7200 RPM.
    LightScribe Super-Multi Drive CD WRITER
    Wireless A/B/G+ Bluetooth,
    TV Tuner, (Should be given as optional, because you are just not going to do only serious work, you also need entertainment in life )

    (1.6,1.7,1.8 is all crap, don;t even buy it even if someone is ready to give free)

    anyone has comments ?

    Dear gr81

    Do Not purchase HP Pavilion dv6114TX , it not worth for the price.

    All I have to say is what is good spec for one might not be the same for another. Get the specifications based on your uses, not because someone else considers it to be the best or rather is the fastest available. My 1.6Ghz processor does everything I want it to do and more. It even runs Vista very well even with 1GB & integrated graphics. So it isnt 'all crap'.
