I had an interesting problem last night:

I have had my dv6000t for about 3 weeks now. It has been working fine, however when I came home yesterday evening and tried turning the computer on, nothing happened. I held down the power button, (the notebook was plugged in) and nothing.

I called HP tech support. The technician had me take out the battery and unplug the unit, and hold down the power button for 15 seconds. I then reinserted the battery, plugged the computer back in, and it was working. Not to sound inconsiderate, but the person on the phone I was speaking with spoke very broken English, and he was diffificult to understand. When I asked why the problem had occured, he said something about certain websites affecting the computer, and he also said something about Norton Anti-Virus not being updated.

Does anybody know why something like this would happen. Is it related to a virus?

Poke around and you'll see that I and others with the dv9000 are having the same issues. I contacted HP and they had me do the same thing. They also had me install the latest BIOS update. For the Intel dv9000 models, that's .04. However, last I checked it hadn't made it to the HTTP site yet ... it was just on the FTP link the HP tech gave me. All that to say, the problem seems solved for me. I asked what taking the battery out and unplugging the system and holding down the power button accomplished: apparently it drains capacitors that still hold electricity. I don't know if this is supposed to cure the problem completely, or just at each instance, but like I said doing this and updating the BIOS seems to have cured it for me. Also, if it continues, simply removing and reinstalling the battery seemed to work for me as well.
