Hello, i was wondering if either:

    1. the expansion dock have a dvi port

    or

    2. the geforce go7400 upgrade have a dvi port? If yes, is the core gma950 motherboard upgradable to the go7400? Or does it need a different motherboard?

1: I believe the dvi port is only on the dv9000t dv9xxx series, Intel Cpu'd machine.. (I may be wrong on that, but I haven't heard of anyone with a dv6000t with a DVI port... The 7400 series gpu doesn't have the DVI module -Only the 7600 series has that...)

2: I don't think the docking port on the dv9xxx passes thru the dvi. I think that feature is only a few select BUSINESS CLASS models with the high end gpu's. (video card)

3: HP uses integrated motherboards... if you were to buy one with the 950, and want to upgrade it later you'd have to buy a new motherboard.

You can check here to see if they have a listing up on it yet..
(takes HP a while to get the parts listing "up" on new models)

Actually, the dv9000t has HDMI, not DVI.

I don't think any HP consumer line offers DVI ports currently.

Thanks for clarifying the motherboard situation.

We have a samsung dlp with hdmi that i want to use with a laptop. It also has a vga connector, will i be losing some image quality compared to hdmi?

Yes I know... a "typo".. dv9xxxx is HDMI, which is DVI+ with a HDCP signal embedded within it, so you can hook it up to a BIG screen HDTV, Plasma, Projector, etc.

    DVI+HDCP=HDMI

Some sets only displaying a blank screen/snow or a low resolution picture if the HDCP signal is not there.

Pretty sure that you can hook up an display that doesn't "need" the HDCP signal, that it would work as a regular dvi port... Haven't researched that...

On some of the BUSINESS Class models a dvi output being available thru the docking port.

See the above links in the previous post and maybe Google around a bit...

HDMI would be the prefered method.

vga hookup upto 1024x768 resolution is perfectly fine, and rezs higher then that you can see a diference in quality between VGA and DVI/HDMI. But its a marginal difference until you get to about 1600x1200
