hi,
i've had my dv6000t CTO for a couple of weeks now and had no complaints until now.
i recently encountered a very weird problem, my speakers stopped working in winXP pro. the headphone jacks output sound but very minimally and only on the right channel.
i tried to isolate the problem and did the following:
1. booting knoppix and ubuntu live: speakers work perfectly, the headphones jacks don't work natively in linux though.
2. restored using the recovery discs, and restored to factory sofware: still no sound.
3. installed windows 2000: speakers work but spotty performance, loses sound after adjusting volume (pressing mute buttons on and off restores sound), no headphone output
has anyone encountered the same problems? does anyone have an idea how to fix this?
i'm using bios version f.04 btw

Don't know if this will help but make sure your souncard drivers are updated -
i'm pretty sure i have the latest drivers. they are version 3.23.0.0 for the Conexant HD audio from the HP website.

i've managed to output sound to the speakers again using windows update (Conexant HD audio driver v3.26) but the headphones don't work anymore. i'm guessing this is a hardware problem so i'm sending this one to hp service.

whats your update? was it the driver or hardware?
i ask because im looking to install ubuntu and dual boot with vista but want to make sure all the ports will work in ubuntu as well as all the hardware such as webcam, sound card, fancy touch buttons and so on. -
I would strongly recommend that you call HP and get a new laptop before 15 days expires. Also if you like, before you return, try using another set of Recovery DVDs (from your friends if they have ones), or install fresh XP, or reinstall your UAA driver (download from HP site).
As for ubuntu, the quicklaunch buttons work perfectly (without any drivers installed after ubuntu setup), the mute button wont get orange when you touch it, but it still mutes and "unmutes" your speakers. As for webcam, I havent tried but I bet there are some webcam drivers out there (don't know if ubuntu also included driver for HP webcam).
One fancy thing is that ubuntu can natively access NTFS partition, and play avi files perfectly (which in XP require avi codec) -
