Yesterday I was sitting there with my laptop in front of me on the internet when all of a sudden the screen froze and I couldn't do anything to continue, then the screen went blank with nothing but the blue lights on the upper console shinning blue as always.
So the only thing I couuld do was to power off by holding down the power button for 5 secounds. I then tried to reboot but nothing happened just a black screen, no noise except the fan coming on and the blue lights lite. No hard drive activity and a blank screen. I waited to see if it would boot up into window just by listening to see if I could hear the windows familiar tone but nothing!!! I guess that was a long shot........
I'm thinking the motherboard is gone because there's no hard drive activity or boot sequence.
To make a long story short, I have just sent it bact to HP repair center just one hour ago. What a deal!!! I have only had this thing one week!!! :(
Anyone else out there have any of these troubles???

Bad luck mate.. But I am sure it'll be replaced. I doubt it's the otherboard.. The fan wouldn't have come on. Maybe a Bios issue...

No, it definitely sounds like a dead motherboard, were you plugged into a surge protector? Things like that happen from time to time, even a single transistor getting fried could render the computer useless. Thus always plug it into a surge protector :)

    They should replace it.

Under warranty ? F that, send that thing back and get a new one :p I would call HP up and tell them you want that one returned, and you want to place an order for a new one. They can't tell you no.

Same thing has happened to mine, HP is trying to tell me that it was the "UPGRADE RAM" that kill MOBO! Comp is still under warranty...
But the question... If my comp had bad Battrey, replaced Hard Drive and 4 weeks later MOBO goes out! WTF!

PS "HP" is telling me upgrading ram had void the warranty...
Whats the deal.... In need of help on this issue

Touchin any hardware without their knowledge pretty much voids the warranty. Did you tell them you upgraded your RAM?

I got it upgraded at Comp USA, no receipt
and had Best Buy "Geek's" check Computer twice, "Super Geeks" check Lab Top, all noticed no problem...
now when the MOBO goes out...it's the Ram... Come on...I feel so cheated...

Good news is that you can just return that sucker and get your money back or get it replaced.

Bad news is that this series, along with a few others, has TONS of hardware malfunctions and defects. HP extended the warranty to 2 years on DV6000's. see link.

But really, I'd suggest going with another manufacturer. There is a high probability that the next one will crap out as well and you'll have to depend on their horrible customer service and inadequate repair centers.
