I have a dv6125se.
The notebook has been working fine for a while, however today while browsing the internet with the power cord plugged in the notebook cut off and now it wont power on.
The blue light that indicates the notebook is plugged in is illuminated, but still it wont power on.
any ideas?
Im about to remove the battery and see if that helps

It's most certainly the GPU, a GeForce Go 6150 causing the problems here. Seen plenty of it in other dv2, dv6, and dv9 series laptops. My only idea at this point is a new motherboard if you want to keep that laptop running, or a new laptop if you don't.

Is it totally dead? any fan? any backlight on the screen? Like reedrichards said about the GPU...my DV9774 died similar to yours, but the fan would spin and a backlight on the screen, just no image. I replaced my motherboard and that fixed it, due to faulty nvidia GPU in that era of DV models.

Hey guys,
When I push the power button, nothing happens.
No screen, no fan, no sound, nothing.
There is a blue indicator light that is illuminated when plugged into an outlet, that is the only sign of life from the notebook.
As for the GPU issues, is this due to excessive heat? I wasnt aware of a fault gpu in this series, was there a recall?
Ive owned this notebook since Jan. 2007. -
This link will tell you about the recall/class action hearings:

There are several threads about the problems with the Nvidia GPU's.
Try removing your battery and see if it works. -
I have removed the battery and that did not help. It doesnt power on with or without the battery
I'll do some further searching on these forums and see what I can find. I really loved this laptop and would be willing to replace the motherboard, hopefully I can find a guide for replacement -
After some searching I think I'll backup my hard drive and send for a replacement model. It will suck waiting months for a replacement but I think its the best option available
-
That sucks then. Sounds worse than just a GPU failure at fault. With my GPU failure everything else was spinning and making noise, hard drives too...just no video on screen.

Do you know if the laptop will operate with the battery removed but plugged in? -
Mine runs with the battery removed and plugged in. Don't have to have it in.
Looks like you have a problem further in, to do with power. Hopefully someone will have better help. Sounds like something "blew" like a capacitor or something on the motherboard. Thats just a guess though. Time to pull it apart and scrutinize it.
Ohh...one more thing, and this might be a long shot, it worked on a DV8000 laptop I had years ago and wouldn't turn on, although it did not die first like yours did, it was working ok last time I used it and then the next day wouldn't turn on....so try what I did. Unplug it, battery out, hold the power button in for a minute and then plug it back in and try turn it on and see if that helps. I have read other people had success when their laptop didn't turn on. But I don't know if they had the same problem as you to start with.
