I'm looking at buying this laptop but have heard that there is a loud noise when using these? Is this still an issue or has it been resolved? Also how satisfied is everyone with this system's performance?

the "noise" issue that you refer to might actually be several different issues:

1). Some have experienced a high pitched whine from right of the touchpad that is supposedly caused by the CPU's power states, blah blah blah. There's no official resolution as this is a semi-hardware issue with the chipset and/or motherboard. There are a few workarounds (ie RMClock, turn on USB hub, plugging something into a USB port, etc).

2). Some people have report a fan issue, idk about that since I don't have it.

3). Other possible issues such as noise emanating from the display, etc

Not everyone has these problems and if you do these noises aren't generally that bad. If you listen to music or watch movies alot, then it shouldn't be disruptive. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the performance of my system, it's fast and reliable generally.

    Specs: HP Pavilion dv6200 CTO

    -Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit
    -Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 2.00GHz
    -2GB 667MHz DDR2 RAM
-256MB nVidia GeForce Go 7400 TurboCache (128MB dedicated)
    -160GB 5400RPM HDD
    -DL DVD Burner w/ LightScribe
    -HP Imprint + microphone + 1.3MP Webcam

performance depends on what you get with the system
hp makes pretty quite laptop and you can check that system on the retail store. stand there and listen. however, it kind of noisy when cd rom or cpu is working at full. (vibrates the whole table that i am using)

Buying it from somewhere it is easily returned like Costco might not be a bad idea if you are more sensitive to noise. Running in low power mode will help with the fan noise. I usually do on my R60. It is near silent and I almost never miss the extra juice.

My understanding is that the high-pitched noise coming from the processor is because of the Intel Core 2 Duo, not HP. Users of notebooks made by other manufacturers have commented upon the noise also.

I use the word "noise" only because that's the way others have described it. I notice a small high-pitched sound coming from my computer, but it is hardly noticeable and, as mentioned above, there are work-arounds to be rid of it.

Having said that, I've have my dv6000t for almost a month and don't regret choosing it at all. I think it is an excellent buy.

Yeah, many people also have this same problem. And so do I.
I just finished contacting the online support, apparently they are (a little) aware of this problem, that the support lady told me that the best option was to return it for repair. Well, since this problem is not fixable (as in permanently and completely), see here:

I might as well just return this notebook and get my money back. Wait sometimes in the future for a better solution.
