I recently received my dv6000t directly from HP. Everything works fine except for the webcam. Device manager recognizes it and reports that the device is working properly. However, the 'scanners and imaging devices' part of the control panel doesn't list it. Adding it didn't do anything. I tried using it for AIM, but no go. The drivers don't seem to be provided on HP's site, either.
Anyone having or had this problem? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Do you have Vista loaded ? or XP ?
I had a similar problem on dv9000t running Vista.
One way to check if the webcam is to click on HP quickplay. then click on the moviecamera icon. You should see a listing for HP webcam. Click on it.
That should turn on your Webcam.
Hope this helps

Thanks for your replies. Yes I do have vista and I was able to access my camera through quickplay but is there any way I can access it otherwise? I was trying to video chat on aim but my camera still is not working. I tried to install the webcam through the scanners and cameras section of the control panel and it just made my computer crash. It is useful to know that I can access it through quickplay but do you know how I would be able to use it for video chatting?

Try updating to the latest drivers -
It happened to me too that the computer crash when i add it to the scanner and cameras... could you let me know how did you recover from that crash, because it's still doing it to me everytime i boot..
Any help would be appreciated.
My spec is:
dv6000t - Vista Home Premium, T7200, 2GB RAM, bluetooth, mic & webcam, nVidia Go 7400. -
I have a dv9205ca which has the same problem, you're describing, I bought it 4 weeks ago. I can not seem to get the webcam to work at times and other times, it works fine. I've tried to disable and then enable the driver. I've deleted the driver and allowed Vista to detect and re-install the driver. I've tried to update the latest driver off HP.com website. All does not seem to fix this problem. The problem still persists intermittently. I've sent my laptop back to HP for service. They had to order a new part which took just under 3 weeks to install and reship back to me. I'll let you know if they managed to fix the problem. Apparently, HP is aware of this problem with and are trying to come up with a fix. This problem does not appear with desktop models with external webcam.

The webcam doesn't ever go in 'scanners and imaging devices' in vista anymore. Only true digicams/video cameras will show there now.
As for it not working in AIM, try other VoIP apps. Skype is a nice and easy one to play with. If you can't get it to work with AIM, then it might be there software isn't vista ready yet. -
aim is still not compatible with the web cam, the next release of the aim software will have the fix. yahoo works as well as live messenger. thx

im a vista noob and im having the same webcam problem, 9000t, vista ultimate...umm *clears throat* where is quickplay? -
HP has a problem working fully with Windows Vista. I've talked to both HP Sweden and HP United States and they are aware of the problem with their built in webcams. Mainly the webcams work fine except for when trying to record something, then sound is ok but it speeds up the recordings picture.
So there's not much more to do but to wait for HP to find a solution and use a external webcam while waiting. I do hope they hurry but because this doesn't look good for HP. Selling to many laptops each day and all comes with Vista now and then not one have a functioning webcam... -
Same thing happened to me. The problem was caused by Windows live messenger for me. If I disable it from starting up when Vista boots and don't use the program, then the webcam gives me no problems with other programs such as Yahoo messenger or Quickplay.

Interesting you say that MSN Messenger has a problem and not in Yahoo or HP Quickplay. I was also told by another tech from Best Buy that to open the webcam in HP Quickplay first and then try the webcam in MSN Messenger. This does not always work as I have tried this suggestion. I received my laptop back from HP Service where they state the 'problem' was corrected by replacing the 'system board'. Anyways as soon as I received it back, I tried to open the webcam in MSN Messenger and still had the same error message as before.

My webcam won't work either unless I first open it in QuickPlay. Kind of annoying, but I'll deal with it for now. There's not really anything HP support can do about it, though. From their standpoint, if it works in their own programs (i.e. QuickPlay), problem solved. Oh, and the other thing I can open it in first is the muvee AutoProducer app that came with my DV6000T. Go figure. I wonder what it is that these two programs do differently when accessing it that other programs don't do.

It should fully boot after it runs the repair service. -
ive had the same problem. built in webcam, vista, wont work with aim. says the webcam is in use by another app.
i hate vista so much. everything crashes. so much more memory is used, and for what I have no idea. nothing usefull. what's even lamer is the fact that HP is preloading it on every system-- i even asked specifically if I could have windows XP, because I knew Vista wasn't going to work properly. they released it too early. of course, they would not do that. -

Well, I'm stuggeling with this web cam issue too... One of the features that drew me to HP was the built-in web cam and now it doesn't work!
Oddly, we have two HP 9000 laptops both bought on the same day together with exact same software, updates, etc. -- one works, one doesn't. It worked for the first six weeks then bam... nothing on the one lappy.
I've worked with tech support (nice people -- as good or better than Dell) and they have been unsuccessful too. Now I need to backup everything and do the system restore. If that fails, then the unit goes for repair.
This is very disappointing. -
i have the same problem . with the webcam sometime it works and sometimes it doesnt , and now when i switch on the laptop , it refuses to reboot and asks to be repaired which usually takes about 15 minutes, and finally the amazing viesta tells me that there is a problem with the webcam , and if u want to solve , try to reinstall the driver.

you can find quickplay next to the powerbutton, it should be an arrow that is shaped in a circle.
