im planning to upgrade my ram (from 1Gb to 2Gb) on dv6000z... i bumped to newegg.com and searched for brand and pricing (wow! their site really sells cheap rams!)

    1. any particular brand i should buy or avoid?
    2. any newegg.com coupon i can use? :)

    * i know ram compatibility differs from every notebooks that's why i posted this on HP forum.

any response will be appreciated (and rep points awarded)!

    muchos gracias!

Buy Crucial 1GB DDR2-667 SODIMMs. That's the safest route.

    1. Stick with reputable brands such as Kingston, Corsair, Crucial, and OCZ.
    2. No idea about coupons. Sorry.

I've installed a couple of 1GB PNY's from newegg on the DV6233SE (AMD) and they run without a problem. It even gave a better memory score on vista - 5.1 as opposed to the 4.5 with the original ones. Not sure its the memory speed only but maybe the test is biased when there is actually more of it...can never know with Microsoft.. ;-)

On a different note, has anyone tried one 2GB stick with AMD CPUs yet? I know it's more expensive but it'll be interesting to know if the option exists

The crucial seems to work fine although I noticed it is running single channel even though they are the same size and brand and 2T command rate. Not very ideal but the extra memory really helps Vista and improves performance decent bit. Well worth upgrading to 2GB if you are interested in running Vista.

fdlazarte - You could try these GSkill's... $125 for 2X1GB sticks is a good price...
