I have the factory installed broadcom and it sucks. What cards are compatible. I know that HP whitelists certain cards in the BIOS and I am not really prepared to go that far right now. I tried the Intel 3945bg and that is not compatible.

My Broadcom wireless card gets great performance in a wide variety of areas (I work in the field). Perhaps you should try updating the driver. I'm currently using version 4.170.25.17. I've noticed much faster network recognition with this driver.

I have the most updated driver that is available on the HP website, which is a lower driver than you have. Where can I get this driver from.

Unfortunately HP didnt offer anything else other than the Broadcom wifi cards in the dv6000z seires, so no other wifi's are on that whitelist. You could try hacking through the BIOS(search the web for tutorials) to install the Intel or Atheros wifi cards but you do run the risk of a dead system if the BIOS hack goes wrong.

BTW, what model broadcom card do you have, my V3000 has a broadcom 4311 and never had any issues(except for lousy linux support) with the networks I connect(home, campus, coffee shops, airports etc).

I do not know. If the BIOS hack doesn't work, I have read some tutorials on it, how would I then go about repairing my computer.

You mean...if the BIOS hack doesnt work. If you are not able to boot into Windows then you would most likely have to put the original BIOS image onto a external floppy drive and re-flash the BIOS.

I was thinking that as well. I had a dlink extreme and it kept falling out of the slot, its not very secure like the pcmcia cards are. Maybe its just this brand I dont know. I would however like to have an internal wireless card, and would actually like to have an external as well so I can connect to 2 different networks in case my connection gets dropped.
