One day, I have had machine for close to 2 yrs now, it is working fine, never any problems. Today I turn on machine and wireless connection is missing from control panel. I check device manager and it is gone as well and the wireless switch on the front is orange in both positions, it is normally orange in the off and blue in the on.

I try turning it on and off and nothing happens. I reinstalled the drivers, nothing. I went to add new hardware nothing. I restarted several times, nothing.

I took the card out and booted up. Then I turned off machine and put card back in and booted up and it was not recognized and I tried installing drivers again and nothing. I tried adding new hardware and selecting the inf but it didn't find the card.

Any ideas? Do I need to just get a new card?

If so does anyone know what cards are on the whitelist, I know broadcoms generally suck. I have the broadcom b/g card.

It's not on that list, I already checked a long time ago. The wireless came back today but after I restarted it disappeared again. Replacement card is only like 20 bucks. I'm leaning towards that and using an external card for the time being, ideas?

The list is incomplete. Your dv6000z has a NVIDIA chipset, therefore it's vulnerable. Talk with HP, but be warned that it took them over a month to repair my dv2000z.

Even if you replace the wireless card, the issue may still be there, due to an issue on the motherboard itself.

The page said that if your machine's product number is not listed then you are not covered under the limited warranty program.

Is this not completely true, in that I still might be able to get it fixed.

    It's a definite maybe...

It depends on who you talk to. If you get a script-reading drone, maybe not. If that happens use the "Email Mark Hurd" link on hp.com and explain the situation. That's a last resort option but it can be surprisingly effective, so long as it's clear that you tried to go through the usual channels.

Hey, I had the EXACT same problem with my Compaq Pressario v6000 (exact) and called my insurance company that took over for HP and said it was a motherboard issue.

Every like 5th time or so it would reappear and it was very random when it did. Most of the time it didn't. Call Hp or whoever works your computer, Thats all i can suggest if not trying to update your driver or reinstall it from your manufacturers website

Wireless just showed back up again, this is odd. They are all script reading drones and I hate talking on the phone, maybe I'll get my assistant/slave to do it for me.

Don't tell them that it comes back or they may not fix it.

You may want to ask and get a case manager involved.

This is also gonna require me sending out my only machine to them for a significant period of time, right?

If so besides replacing the wireless card is there any other step I can take to try to remedy this problem on my own?

You should assume you'll be without your notebook for several weeks. The 6 weeks they took with my dv2000z is probably the worst-case scenario, they should be catching up with the backlog caused by Hurricane Ike whacking their Texas repair depot.

If you haven't already flashed in the fixed BIOS that runs the fan 24x7, do it now. My dv9000z, which got the update early, is still going strong. The dv2000z never got the update.

But at this point the damage is done. I'd start shopping for a new notebook, preferably with ATI graphics (I really like my dv4z), and probably sell the repaired notebook when you get it back.

F.3D is the most current BIOS for the dv6000z and that was posted online in November of 2007. I have this update. I am using an expresscard now, since my machine doesn't have a pcmcia slot. I had to go out and buy an express card, would of been nice if I could of just used the pcmcia card I had lying around. Expresscards are also a pain to find and quite expensive, I am not happy at all.
